Busy at Work, the Apprenticeship Community is a national collective of Australian Apprenticeship Support Services providers, with over 40 years of experience in connecting employers and apprentices. We offer advice and tailored support for apprentices, trainees, and businesses to support successful careers and skilled, productive workplaces.
A little about the role
As our Career Mentor, you’ll empower apprentices to succeed by providing tailored career advice and recommending the best training, employment, or upskilling pathways. Whether it’s pre-apprenticeships, VET qualifications, or traineeships, you’ll help guide individuals towards the right opportunities. Plus, you’ll focus on delivering measurable results by working to achieve set KPIs and continuously improving service delivery.
Your day will involve the following tasks, but won’t be limited to:
- Mentor apprentices through their entire apprenticeship journey
- Respond to client inquiries with VET pathways and pre-vocational advice
- Assist clients in identifying suitable opportunities and post-trade career guidance
- Provide VET pathway info aligned with employer needs and apprenticeship requirements
- Maintain accurate and detailed In-training information and file notes
- Aid clients in referrals, interview preparation, and post-testing support
- Assist industry partners and employers in advertising and recruiting apprentices
- Build relationships with schools, GTOs, RTOs, and job search providers
- Attend external events to promote apprenticeship opportunities
- Conduct contractual progress contacts as required

- Exceptional communication and written skills
- Self-motivated
- Natural ability to negotiate, mediate and solve problems
- Understanding/knowledge of apprenticeships and traineeships
- Ability to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders
- Ability to operate in a highly ethical manner in accordance with the AA contractual requirements
- Commitment to community development and securing of employment outcomes
- Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team
- Ability to work to and deliver on KPIs
Value-Added Experience
- Demonstrated experience working in a mentoring or coaching capacity
- Experience in leading, motivating and communicating with a broad range of people including youth
- Demonstrated negotiating, mediating and problem-solving experiences
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with various external stakeholders including apprentices, employers, and parents/guardians
- Knowledge of the local labour market conditions and opportunities
- Proven track record in meeting targets, KPIs, and customer service standards
- Qualifications or progress toward youth/social work (e.g., Certificate IV in Community Services) are highly regarded
- Current driver’s license
