Role Type
Description
Sick of big companies ripping people off, selling shonky products and giving people the run-around when they need help? Do you have an eye for policy and can spot where laws are failing people? Do you have a knack for campaigning for real change and want to make a difference for Australian consumers? We are looking for a Senior Campaigns and Policy Advisor to join CHOICE.
About you
You can pull apart a piece of legislation, spot the gap that’s leaving consumers worse off, and build a campaign that gets consumers and decision makers paying attention. You write with clarity and purpose, whether that’s drafting a submission to a parliamentary inquiry or writing a supporter email to gather thousands of people to sign a petition.
You’re politically astute and know how to build relationships with external stakeholders, balancing the push for a quick win with the long game of lasting influence. You’re proactive, spotting emerging issues before they hit the headlines. When the agenda shifts, you adapt and reprioritise and get a sprint campaign out the door.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for inspiring people to take action, making a compelling case to decision makers, regulators and politicians
- The ability to structure a logical argument in plain language, adapting your style to suit your audience and different perspectives
- Strong policy and campaign strategy skills, including planning proactively for impact and reacting quickly when opportunities arise
- Knowledge of consumer law and policy issues, and an interest in and thorough understanding of social issues
- Experience developing advocacy campaign strategies and managing projects from idea to outcome
- Sharp analytical skills, with the ability to draw together information from many sources, spot patterns and inconsistencies, and get to the root of a problem
- Internal and external stakeholder engagement experience, including political engagement
- Experience in an NGO and/or public service organisation in a policy or regulatory capacity
- Experience as a media spokesperson, or a willingness to learn
- A strong work ethic
