About the Role
Sterling is seeking an organised, proactive, and motivated Project Administrator/Project Support Officer to join our Rail Consulting division.
This role plays an important part in supporting the successful delivery of rail, infrastructure, utilities and development projects by assisting with project administration, invoicing, forecasting, reporting, scheduling, proposal preparation, and project coordination activities. Working closely with Project Leads, and the wider division, you will help keep projects running smoothly while gaining exposure to a broad range of project delivery and business operation activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within the rail industry. Rail experience is not essential. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn, and the initiative to take ownership of tasks and support the team wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support across a range of rail, utilities, development and infrastructure projects
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and coordination activities
- Support project invoicing, forecasting, and financial administration processes
- Assist with project reporting, job tracking, and internal performance reporting
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, registers, and records
- Support proposal, tender, and submission preparation activities
- Assist with mobilisation and resource planning activities
- Maintain accurate project records and structured filing systems
- Monitor project administration processes and project delivery requirements
- Support communication and coordination between project teams, clients, and stakeholders
- Assist with rail access coordination and project delivery activities where required
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and business processes
- Promote and support a safe and healthy workplace at all times
About You
You are highly organised, detail-oriented, and enjoy helping teams stay on top of the details that keep projects moving. You are proactive, willing to learn, and comfortable taking ownership of your work.
You don’t need rail experience to succeed in this role. We are open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds including administration, project support, construction, utilities, engineering, consulting, or other project-based industries.

Qualifications & Experience
- Qualification in Project Management, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience is desired but not necessary
Desirable
- Experience in project administration, project coordination, or a similar support role
- Exposure to infrastructure, utilities, construction, engineering, or rail projects
- Experience with invoicing, financial administration, forecasting, or project reporting
- Understanding of project delivery environments and project control processes
