The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne is seeking an experienced and collaborative finance professional to join our Finance team as a Parish Finance Services Partner.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Parish Finance Services, you will act as a trusted financial partner to parishes, providing advice, analysis, reporting and operational support to enhance financial performance and sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with parish priests, administrators and finance committees to provide financial guidance and support.
  • Supporting parish financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, banking and compliance activities.
  • Coordinating and reviewing annual parish financial statements.
  • Assisting parishes with budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial planning.
  • Monitoring financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and recommending practical solutions.
  • Preparing reports and financial insights for governance committees and key stakeholders.
  • Supporting financial governance, internal controls, audit activities and policy compliance.
  • Developing and delivering training to parish staff and finance committees to strengthen financial capability and understanding.
  • Assisting with financial modelling, capital expenditure proposals, investment assessments and business cases.
  • Driving continuous improvement in financial systems, reporting processes and financial management practices across parishes.

About You

You are an experienced finance professional who enjoys building strong stakeholder relationships and turning financial information into meaningful business insights.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • CPA or CA qualification, or a minimum of five years’ experience in a comparable financial reporting, analysis or business partnering role.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate financial information into practical recommendations.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling and analysis.
  • Experience using financial accounting systems such as Xero and financial reporting or business intelligence tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and commitment to service excellence.
