Founded in 1979, Carrie’s Place Domestic Violence and Homelessness Service is a committed team of professionals dedicated to raising awareness of domestic violence within the community. As a not-for-profit organisation, we offer a wide range of culturally sensitive services to individuals affected by domestic violence and homelessness.
Our mission is to empower families in the Maitland and Lower Hunter regions by helping them find safe, stable housing and live free from abuse. We work closely with local communities to address domestic violence and homelessness, providing holistic support that fosters capacity-building, inclusion, and resilience.
Our passionate team collaborates to offer a variety of programs focusing on equipping clients with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to maintain healthy relationships and achieve greater independence.
About the Role:
Working in a supportive team environment and reporting to the Engagement and Communications Manager, the Grants Officer works in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and Program Managers. The position will be responsible for developing and executing grant proposals to secure funding for Carrie’s Place from a diverse range of opportunities, to help shape the long-term vision of the Organisation.
This will be done by:
- Researching and identifying relevant grant funding opportunities.
- Designing quality and innovative grant applications, showcasing the impact the
Organisation has with clients.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing corporate sponsors, businesses and community partners.
- Consulting with internal stakeholders regarding opportunities for grant applications.
- Representing Carrie’s Place at a range of community and business-related networking events to increase the awareness of the Organisation.
- Assisting with writing and submitting tenders, grant applications and / or opportunities
for accreditation.
- Coordinating grant acquittals to ensure all reporting and documentation meets funder requirements.
- Maintaining up-to-date grant applications ensuring accurate and organised records.
- Reporting and monitoring the progress of grant submissions.
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, research, writing or related field.
- Demonstrated experience writing successful grant applications and reports.
- Excellent research, writing, and storytelling skills to design engaging grant applications.
- Proven ability to translate complex programs and outcomes into accessible and compelling written content.
- Ability to interpret legislation and governance requirements.
- Exceptional time management skills and an ability to create plans, checklists and monitor impact and outcomes.
- Solid project management skills to coordinate the complete grant application process.
- Strong data interpretation skills, with the ability to maintain accuracy and exercise sound judgement when working with complex information.
- Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build internal and external relationships to achieve common goals and positive outcomes in relation to financial and non-financial support.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable, including working evenings and weekends when required (time in lieu will be provided).
- A genuine interest in representing an organisation who supports women and children impacted by domestic violence and homelessness.
- Commitment to privacy, confidentiality, and information security under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
- Current, unrestricted NSW driver’s licence.
- Current Working with Children clearance.
- Current National Police clearance.
- Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status or valid medical exemption.
Desirable Criteria:
- Undergraduate qualifications in Business, Communications, or a related discipline, with subsequent relevant experience in a similar role, OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and further education / training related to Grant Writing.
- Previous experience in a not-for-profit or social and community services organisation would be an advantage.
