The Canberra Southern Cross Club is one of Canberra’s largest and most respected hospitality and entertainment organisations. Across our venues, we deliver everything from corporate conferences and gala dinners to weddings, celebrations and community events, creating exceptional experiences for thousands of guests every year.
We’re looking for an experienced Sales & Events Manager to lead our talented Sales & Events team and drive the continued growth of our functions and events business. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll combine strategic sales, people leadership and operational collaboration to deliver outstanding results. Working closely with our Operations and Marketing teams, you’ll ensure every client enjoys a seamless experience, from their first enquiry through to operational handover.
No two days are the same. One day you’ll be securing a major corporate conference, the next you’ll be coaching your team, meeting with clients, developing sales strategies or collaborating with venue leaders to deliver exceptional events.
Salary:
$100,000 – $120,000 per annum
The Role
As the Sales & Events Manager, you’ll lead both the commercial and customer experience aspects of our events business. You’ll inspire your team to deliver exceptional service while identifying new opportunities to grow revenue across conferences, corporate events, weddings, private functions and community events.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, mentoring and developing the Sales & Events team to achieve outstanding results.
- Developing and implementing sales strategies that grow event bookings and maximise revenue.
- Building strong relationships with corporate clients, community organisations and industry partners.
- Driving new business while nurturing existing client relationships to generate repeat business.
- Managing sales forecasting, budgeting, reporting and performance against key business objectives.
- Working closely with Operations, Marketing and venue leaders to maximise venue utilisation and deliver exceptional client experiences.
- Overseeing the client journey from enquiry through to operational handover
- Representing the Canberra Southern Cross Club at networking events, industry functions and community engagements.
About You
You’re a confident leader who enjoys developing people just as much as delivering commercial results. You understand the importance of exceptional customer service and know how to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day operational excellence.
You’ll bring:
- 5+ years’ senior sales and events leadership experience in hospitality, hotels or large venues.
- Demonstrated achievement of significant sales and revenue targets.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and reporting.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
- Current RSA.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Degree or Diploma in Business, Hospitality, Marketing or Event Management.
- Experience managing multi-site operations.
- Existing corporate and government networks within Canberra.
- Experience developing strategic sales plans and budgets.
