Currently we are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Diversional Therapist Assistant/ Recreational Activities Officer to join our team on full-time basis!

About the role

In this role you will be responsible for carrying out the lifestyle programs and care services for residents in our Aged Care Facility. This will include both leisure and recreation activities which are designed to enhance the psychological, social and psychical wellbeing of our residents.

You will be a part of our Diversional Therapist team, who will report directly to the Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator, as well as the General Manager.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Have obtained a Certificate IV in Leisure and Lifestyle or currently studying –desirable but not essential
  • Have previous experience in activities and lifestyle enrichment
  • Demonstrated understanding and implementation of the Aged Care Quality Standards
  • Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate – desirable but not essential
  • Be flexible to meet the demands as the position may involve morning, evening and weekend work
  • Have effective networking skills
  • Have strong leadership, communication and people management skills
  • Ability to operate independently and in a multidisciplinary team

 

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following;

  • Understanding regulatory requirements within Aged Care
  • Motivate residents towards emotional and physical rehabilitation through recreational activities
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate leisure and recreational activities to meet the needs of residents
  • Recognise and assist to overcome any barriers to participation from residents
  • Facilitate opportunities for residents’ continued involvement in the wider community
  • Liaise with family/person responsible/carers and other members of the health care team to facilitate the achievement of the residents’ leisure and recreational pursuits
  • Prepare for events, including decorating the facility, rooms, invitations, guest entertainers, catering
  • Assist residents to attend regular external bus outings or excursions
  • Bring new ideas to the development of a broad range of activities and events

 

Other aspects that would be favorably considered:

  • Ability to play a musical instrument, craft or gardening skills
