Description

Broadsheet Media is looking for a Newsletter Editor based in either Melbourne or Sydney, to lead the production and growth of our newsletter portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of Audience Growth and working closely with Broadsheet’s Editorial, Audience and Reader Revenue teams, the Newsletter Editor is responsible for ensuring Broadsheet’s newsletters are a valuable and essential part of our readers’ daily habits.

This is a strategic and hands-on production role involving newsletter planning, curation, editing, building, testing, scheduling and performance analysis, as well as acquisition and retention. The Newsletter Editor uses strong editorial judgement and audience insights to ensure every newsletter is relevant, compelling, visually strong and distinctly Broadsheet.

They are responsible for growing newsletter audiences, strengthening engagement with existing subscribers and continually improving the portfolio based on reader behaviour, performance and conversion data, best practice and industry trends.

The Role

The Newsletter Editor oversees Broadsheet’s newsletter portfolio and manages the full production cycle, from content curation through to building, distribution and reporting.

They work closely with editors to identify the strongest stories for each audience, write and refine headlines and subject lines, select and create imagery and ensure every send meets Broadsheet’s editorial and visual standards. 

The role also works with the broader Audience, Design, Product, Reader Revenue and Commercial teams to improve newsletter discoverability, subscriber acquisition, audience segmentation, paid subscriber conversion and the overall reader experience.

The Newsletter Editor thinks strategically about the role newsletters play in growing Broadsheet’s audience and building habitual readership. They assess what is working, identify opportunities for new newsletter products and make recommendations informed by data and the Broadsheet brand.

Key responsibilities include: working with the Head of Audience Growth to develop and deliver Broadsheet’s newsletter strategy; managing the newsletter calendar, workflow and distribution schedule; curating, editing, building, proofreading and scheduling newsletters; using audience insights to improve content selection, structure, timing and design; monitoring key metrics and reporting on performance to provide clear recommendations to editorial and senior leadership;  developing acquisition initiatives to grow newsletter subscriptions and enhance engagement.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in digital publishing, media, journalism or a related content environment
  • Demonstrated experience producing and distributing newsletters or digital content
  • Excellent editing, proofreading, headline-writing and content curation skills
  • Highly-organised, flexible and deadline driven
  • An excellent writer with a strong grasp of grammar and editorial conventions
  • Strong editorial judgement and clarity on what makes content relevant and engaging
  • Experience analysing audience data to optimise performance
  • Understanding of key newsletter engagement, retention and growth metrics
  • Experience with email platforms, content management systems and audience segmentation tools; experience with Braze, Canva and Asana would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams
  • A solid understanding of Broadsheet’s voice, tone and visual style
  • A strong interest in digital publishing, newsletters and audience growth
