Lead One of Sydney’s Most Iconic Irish Pubs

For decades, Scruffy Murphy’s has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s hospitality scene. Located in the heart of the CBD, the venue is renowned for its authentic Irish atmosphere, live entertainment, quality food and beverage offering, and welcoming hospitality.

As part of Brickfield Hospitality, you’ll join a growing hospitality group that owns and operates a collection of iconic pubs and venues across Sydney. Our focus is simple: great people, great venues and exceptional guest experiences.

We’re seeking an experienced and commercially astute Licensee / General Manager to lead Scruffy Murphy’s into its next chapter.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the overall performance, culture and day-to-day operation of the venue.

This is a true leadership role where you’ll take ownership of every aspect of the business. From leading and developing your team to driving financial performance and delivering exceptional guest experiences, you’ll have the autonomy to make an impact while being supported by an experienced Senior Leadership Team.

You’ll be expected to lead from the front, foster a high-performing culture and continually identify opportunities to grow the business while maintaining the standards that have made Scruffy Murphy’s one of Sydney’s most recognised pubs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the venue across food, beverage and gaming.
  • Drive commercial performance through strong revenue growth, labour management and cost control.
  • Recruit, lead, mentor and develop a high-performing management and venue team.
  • Deliver exceptional guest experiences and maintain outstanding service standards.
  • Foster a positive, engaged and accountable team culture.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts and regular financial reporting.
  • Oversee purchasing, stock control and inventory management.
  • Ensure compliance with liquor licensing, gaming legislation, food safety, workplace health and safety, and company policies.
  • Build strong relationships with guests, suppliers and the local community.
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team to deliver strategic initiatives and continuously improve venue performance.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced hospitality leader who is passionate about developing people, driving performance and creating memorable guest experiences. To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Previous experience as a General Manager, Licensee or senior Venue Manager within a high-volume hospitality environment.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, labour and profitability.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and inspire high-performing teams.
  • A hands-on leadership style and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in entertainment-focused, late-night or high-volume venues will be highly regarded.
  • A sound understanding of NSW liquor licensing, gaming operations and compliance.
  • Current RSA, RCG and Licensee qualifications
