About the role
Reporting to the Claims Team Leader, the Property Claims Specialist plays a key role in managing a portfolio of landlord and residential property insurance claims from lodgement through to settlement. You’ll work closely with property managers, landlords, tenants and service providers to deliver fair, timely and customer-focused claim outcomes while balancing commercial considerations, policy coverage and regulatory requirements
This is an opportunity to take ownership of your own portfolio and become a trusted partner to property managers and customers throughout the claims journey. You’ll investigate claims, assess policy coverage, manage stakeholder relationships and provide clear guidance and support at every stage of the claim lifecycle.
Working within a collaborative and growing claims team, you’ll contribute to service excellence, continuous improvement initiatives and the ongoing success of one of Blue Zebra’s core insurance portfolios.
Key duties include:
- Manage an end-to-end portfolio of landlord, tenant damage, tenant default and residential property insurance claims.
- Assess policy coverage, liability and claim value in accordance with policy wordings, delegated authority and company procedures.
- Investigate claims by gathering information from property managers, landlords, tenants and service providers.
- Make informed and timely claim decisions while maintaining a strong customer focus.
- Maintain accurate claim records, file notes and documentation throughout the claim lifecycle.
- Proactively manage diary actions, follow-ups and outstanding claim activities to ensure timely resolution.
- Build trusted relationships with property managers and key stakeholders to support positive customer outcomes.
- Communicate claim decisions, policy coverage and settlement outcomes in a clear and practical manner.
- Identify opportunities for recovery, loss mitigation and cost-effective settlement solutions.
- Manage complaints, disputes and escalated matters in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency.
- Support a positive team culture through collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
About you
You’re an experienced claims professional who enjoys balancing technical claims assessment with building strong relationships and delivering outstanding customer service.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment, take ownership of your work and enjoy solving problems. Whether your experience comes from property, motor, liability, workers compensation or another insurance claims environment, you’re confident assessing information, making decisions and managing competing priorities.
You take pride in delivering fair outcomes, communicating clearly and professionally, and providing customers and stakeholders with confidence throughout the claims process.

You’ll bring
- Experience managing insurance claims in a property, motor, liability, workers compensation or similar claims environment.
- Strong claims assessment, investigation and decision-making skills.
- The ability to interpret policy coverage and apply sound judgement to claim outcomes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and customer service skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Proven ability to manage a portfolio of claims while meeting service standards and deadlines.
- Sound problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to claim management.
- The ability to manage sensitive conversations professionally and empathetically.
- Understanding of compliance, regulatory and governance requirements within an insurance environment.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Insurance qualifications (ANZIIF, Diploma of Financial Services or similar) will be highly regarded.
