Description

Innovation Casual (Food Technologist student)

Birch & Waite | Sydney (Marrickville, moving to Villawood) | Casual

🎓 Get Real Food Tech Experience Before You Graduate

At Birch & Waite, we don’t just make chef-quality sauces, dressings, mayonnaise and desserts. We create products that help Australians make everyday meals extraordinary.

As our business grows and our product portfolio expands, we’re opening the door to a Food Technology student who’s ready to step out of the lecture theatre and into a real product development environment.

This is a role for someone who’s curious, hands-on and keen to learn.

You’ve completed your first year of a Food Science or Food Technology degree, and now you want to see how it all comes together in industry. With us, you’ll work across a diverse portfolio, including dressings, sauces, desserts, dips and more, so no two days look the same.

We know study comes first. This is a casual role and we’ll work around your university timetable.

The role is based at our Marrickville site, moving to our new Villawood site next year, so you’ll need to be able to make the move with us.

You’ll be…

  • Supporting the development of new products across dressings, sauces, desserts, dips and more
  • Preparing benchtop samples and helping run product trials
  • Collecting ingredients from the factory and keeping the Innovation Kitchen clean
  • Taking part in sensory evaluations and capturing feedback
  • Recording trial data accurately and helping keep documentation up to date
  • Working alongside experienced food technologists to take products from concept to shelf
  • Learning how food safety and quality fit into everything we make

You’ll thrive here if you…

  • Are passionate about food, flavour and innovation
  • Love getting hands-on and learning by doing
  • Are organised, detail-oriented and reliable
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and aren’t afraid to ask questions
  • Want to make a real impact on products Australians enjoy every day

What you’ll bring

  • Current enrolment in an undergraduate Food Science, Food Technology or related degree, with first year completed
  • The ability to travel to our Marrickville site now, and to Villawood from next year
  • A curious mind and a willingness to learn

Bonus points if you have…

  • Lab or kitchen experience, whether through university, hospitality or food service
  • An interest in wet food products, such as chilled mayonnaise, dressings and sauces
