Bidgerdii Community Health Services is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service, operating in the Rockhampton and wider Central Queensland region for more than 30 years and our vision is for Healthy and Strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, children, families and communities – self – determining, culturally strong, and thriving in their own way. The name ‘Bidgerdii’ means ‘healing plant’ – the bark of the plant was used for tobacco, and the leaves for healing sores and rashes.
Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary healthcare and wellbeing services, collaborates with partner agencies for integrated continuity of care and advocates for health policy and health system reform. Our services include general practice bulk-billing clinics, social and emotional wellbeing and generalist counselling services, chronic disease management, preventative health screening, children and family health and early childhood education services.
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Aboriginal Health Worker to join our team.
This position is located within the Blackwater Bidgerdii Clinic and the successful candidate will work alongside and collaboratively with other clinicians including doctors, nurses, allied health practitioners in a range of settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing culturally appropriate primary health care services for clients of Bidgerdii. The role requires a deep understanding of the social, cultural, and historical factors that impact the health and wellbeing of Indigenous communities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally appropriate health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
- Conduct health assessments and screenings
- Provide health education and promotion to individuals and groups
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
- Participate in quality improvement activities
- Attend relevant training and professional development opportunities
Practical requirements:
- Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A and Pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential.
- Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check.
