Be Positive Therapy is seeking experienced Occupational Therapists to join our growing Medicolegal Consultant Panel. This opportunity is designed for senior clinicians with extensive Functional Capacity Assessment experience who are looking to apply their expertise within the medicolegal space, contributing independent assessments and expert reports for NDIS related reviews, appeals and Tribunal matters. Whether you’re working in private practice, community health, occupational rehabilitation or disability services, this role offers the opportunity to undertake specialised consulting work alongside your existing professional commitments.

As demand for independent expert Occupational Therapy assessments continues to grow, we are expanding our panel of senior Occupational Therapists available for medicolegal referrals.

About the Role

As a Medicolegal Consultant, you will be engaged on a case by case basis to provide independent Occupational Therapy assessments and expert reports. When a suitable matter is received, panel members may be nominated to legal representatives or other referring parties. If selected, you will undertake the assessment, prepare an expert report and, where required, provide clarification regarding your findings. Each engagement typically involves approximately 20 hours of work across assessment, documentation review, report preparation and consultation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive Functional Capacity Assessments.
  • Review relevant medical, allied health and evidentiary documentation.
  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning and NDIS knowledge to form independent opinions.
  • Prepare high-quality, objective and defensible expert reports.
  • Provide recommendations regarding support needs, assistive technology, home modifications and functional capacity
  • Participate in Tribunal proceedings or related discussions where required.

Essential Requirements

To be considered, you must have:

  • Current AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • A minimum of 7 years post-qualification Occupational Therapy experience.
  • Extensive experience conducting Functional Capacity Assessments.
  • Strong understanding of the NDIS and disability sector.
  • Exceptional written communication and report-writing skills.
  • Advanced clinical reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Capacity to commit approximately 20 hours per matter when engaged.

Please note: Applicants with less than 7 years post-qualification Occupational Therapy experience will not be considered.

Highly Regarded

  • Previous medicolegal or expert witness experience.
  • Experience preparing reports for tribunal or legal matters.
  • Occupational rehabilitation experience.
  • Complex disability assessment experience.
  • Experience supporting NDIS review or appeal matters.
