Help drive Australia’s clean energy future.
Ark Energy is growing – and so is our ambition. As we grow from a development-only model to building, owning, and operating our renewable energy assets, we’re looking for a skilled and motivated BESS Electrical Engineer to help shape the future of clean energy in Australia by supporting the identification and the design of BESS projects.
About the Role
Based in either Brisbane or Sydney, you’ll play a key role in the identifying and the design of Ark Energy’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects through working supporting the engineering team in EPC, project and pipeline development. This role is primarily office based with occasional travel to sites as required. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver energy storage solutions from ideation and into operation.
This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark in a purpose-driven company committed to accelerating Australia’s energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering, Procurement and Construction Support
- Review and ensure compliance of detailed BESS design documentation, including SLDs, GA drawings, and specifications.
- Provide engineering support across all project phases, from design through to commissioning, including site-based troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with procurement and commercial teams to evaluate vendor proposals and ensure project delivery to technical and contractual standards.
Project Development Support
- Support early-stage project development by preparing concept designs, feasibility
assessments, and BESS/BOP equipment specifications, including NEM connection
requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to refine technical inputs, manage schedules,
and support procurement through specification development and vendor evaluation.
Pipeline Development Support
- Support pipeline development by identifying high-value BESS site opportunities and
sharing insights on emerging technologies, standards, and regulatory changes to
drive innovation.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred), with strong experience in electrical engineering, including at least 2 years focused on
BESS.
- Prior experience in technical due diligence, owner’s engineering, advisory services, and feasibility studies for renewable energy projects and/or energy storage systems.
- Preferred proficiency in PVsyst, PVcase, PowerCAD, PSCAD, and PSSE or other similar modelling software.
- Strong knowledge of BESS technologies, grid integration, and power system modelling.
- Familiarity with relevant standards (such as IEC, IEEE, AS/NZS) and a good understanding of safety, grid compliance and regulatory requirements for energy storage assets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software, with strong technical skills in producing documentation and solving complex problems.
- Experienced in interdisciplinary design and construction teams; well-organised, self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Knowledge of the Australian renewable energy sector and National Energy Market, with flexibility to travel to project sites across Australia.
