The Organisation
Alpha HPA is a publicly listed, Australian-based company that has commercialised the world’s first solvent extraction (SX) purification technique applied to aluminium. This breakthrough process produces a growing range of ultra-high purity aluminium materials – oxides, hydroxides and nitrates – used across advanced industries such as LED lighting, synthetic sapphire, semiconductors and lithium-ion batteries.
Alpha HPA’s materials deliver market-leading purity levels with a significantly lower carbon profile. The Stage One HPA First Project in Gladstone is already in production – the first commercial
application of Alpha HPA’s proprietary Smart SXTM process, producing >99.99% pure aluminium products.
Construction of the large-scale Stage Two facility is underway, with full-scale production targeted for mid-2027. Once operational, Alpha HPA will produce 10,000 tonnes of HPA equivalent per year, right here in Gladstone.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the safe and successful transition of our Stage 2 Project from construction through commissioning and into operations. As the Permit to Work Coordinator, you will be at the centre of critical operational readiness activities at site. These include leading the development and implementation of safe work systems while establishing and managing the Permit Office. Your expertise will directly contribute to creating a strong safety culture and ensuring operational readiness from day one.
Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Safety and Leadership teams, you will be responsible for coordinating and controlling permit-to-work activities across the facility. This is a highly visible role where you will influence how work is planned, authorised and executed, balancing safe work practices with operational efficiency. You will have the opportunity to shape processes, provide coaching and training, and drive consistency in permit-to-work standards across all shifts.
As the facility moves into the operational phase, you will become a trusted subject matter expert, supporting continuous improvement of safe work systems and helping to build workforce capability. This role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on site performance, safety outcomes and

Key responsibilities
·Ensure that safety, risk and environmental rules and programs are strictly adhered to.
·Issue Safe Work Permits in accordance with all Policies, Procedures and Instructions. This
includes all and any clearances required to safely perform work on-site.
·Develop and maintain knowledge of the production process, process materials and equipment on site.
·Manage PTW tracking system.
·Ensuring the PTW office is maintained to a minimum, set standard. Apply 5S methods to setting up and maintaining Permit Office.
·Conduct field audits on LOTO.
·Participate in and assist with incident investigations.
·Train and verify competency for PTW roles which may include isolation, gas testing, issuing Permits and receiving Permits.
·Setting clear expectations for other Permit Issuers on shift crews.
·Ensure all people receiving Safe Work Permits receive relevant safety information and site communications.
·Collect feedback from all roles in the Safe Work Permitting system. Apply this knowledge to work collaboratively with Safety and Leadership
About You
You’ll bring:
·Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role or 10 years’ experience as a Permit Issuer
·Proven and demonstrated experience within a chemical handling/process operation environment in a similar role (desired)
·Demonstrated experience with industrial safe work procedures and practices.
·Demonstrated experience with strong communication, problem solving, organisational and delegation skills.
·Proven work experience as a team leader or coordinator.
·Pass written test for verification of understanding of the process and requirements for your area.
·Self-motivated and ability to work in a strong team environment.
·Current work rights in Australia.
·Ability to operate independently.
·Self-motivated, highly pro-active and resilient attitude.
