Description

Al Zahra College is seeking an experienced IB (MYP & DP) Arabic Language teacher with NESA Accreditation or the ability to gain it quickly with appropriate teaching qualifications (Aus, NZ, Can, UK) to commence in January or July 2027.

The Secondary Arabic Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, effective, and evidence-based instruction in the Arabic Language Key Learning Area. The successful applicant will foster critical thinking, communication, and language proficiency across secondary year levels while supporting the College’s Islamic ethos. Teachers are expected to collaborate with colleagues, contribute to student wellbeing, and promote academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver high-quality Arabic language lessons in accordance with the IB (MYP and DP) and NESA curricula.
  • Plan, assess, and report on student progress in line with College policies and procedures.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Integrate digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Design, implement, and evaluate teaching programs using relevant assessment data.
  • Develop high-quality learning resources that support language acquisition and cultural understanding.

Professional Engagement

  • Participate in professional development and College-based training.
  • Collaborate with the Arabic Department and colleagues across faculties.
  • Maintain NESA accreditation and meet IB and professional teaching standards.

Pastoral Care, Co-curricular Activities and Islamic Ethos

  • Contribute to the wellbeing and pastoral care of students.
  • Participate in College co-curricular and community events.
  • Encourage student participation in academic and cultural activities.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of Islamic events.
  • Uphold the College’s Islamic ethos, including appropriate professional dress and respectful conduct.
  • Attend Islamic events and activities scheduled in the College calendar.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • NESA-accredited teacher with experience teaching Arabic.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the IB (MYP and DP) and/or NESA curriculum.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the Islamic values and mission of Al Zahra College.
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Australian work rights.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching in an IB World School.
  • Experience with inquiry-based learning.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Education, Arabic, or a related field.
