About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on senior engineer who enjoys owning the whole environment, not just one corner of it. This role takes technical ownership of our networks, cloud platforms and security across our Adelaide and Sunshine Coast sites, with a strong focus on networking, AWS and practical cyber security.

You’ll be joining at a good time. Our networks at both sites were recently redesigned and rebuilt on a three-tier architecture, so you’ll inherit a well-documented, controlled environment. The immediate focus is on reliability, improvement and strengthening security, while also helping shape where our infrastructure goes next.

This role would suit someone who is comfortable moving between hands-on engineering and bigger-picture thinking, from troubleshooting a routing issue or planning a maintenance window, to recommending a new solution or explaining a technical risk to the executive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Own, maintain and improve our enterprise networks across both sites, including switching, routing, firewalls and site-to-site VPNs
• Operate, secure and improve our AWS environment, including VPC networking and hybrid connectivity between our sites and the cloud
• Support Microsoft 365, Azure and identity services, including Active Directory, Entra ID and single sign-on into AWS
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex network, server, storage and cloud issues, including hands-on incident response
• Plan and deliver upgrades, patching and configuration changes during scheduled maintenance windows
• Strengthen our security posture through network segmentation, access control, least-privilege principles and security tooling such as Microsoft Defender
• Lead the development of our cyber security roadmap, policies and standards, including alignment with frameworks such as the Essential Eight
• Oversee third-party and vendor access to our systems, making sure it is documented, limited and properly removed when no longer needed
• Assess and recommend new technology, and plan projects from design through to testing and handover
• Work with vendors and service providers while keeping ownership of technical decisions in-house
• Provide clear advice to senior leaders on technical risks, priorities and investment decisions

About You

You are a pragmatic senior engineer who enjoys solving problems, improving systems and taking real ownership of an environment. You’re as comfortable working through a complex routing or cloud connectivity issue as you are explaining your recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.

You care about doing things properly: documenting your work, testing before you deploy and building security in from the start. You’ll be excited by the chance to strengthen solid foundations and help shape the future of technology at Aerometrex.

You’ll bring strong experience in:

• Enterprise networking, including switching, VLANs, routing (static and dynamic, including BGP), spanning tree, firewalls and IPsec VPNs
• AWS, including VPC design, hybrid connectivity and IAM
• Hands-on cyber security, including segmentation, access control, MFA and endpoint protection
• The Microsoft stack, including Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and Azure
• Designing and delivering infrastructure improvements, not only supporting them (typically 6+ years in infrastructure roles)

It would be great if you also bring experience in some of the following:

• Security frameworks such as the Essential Eight, ISO 27001 or SOC 2
• Certifications such as CCNP, AWS Solutions Architect or Advanced Networking, AZ-104, CISSP or CISM
• Dell or FS switching and Sophos firewalls
• 3CX or other VoIP phone systems
• Servers, storage and backup environments
• Managing vendors and third-party access

Experience within geospatial technology, aerial imagery, LiDAR or spatial data environments would be advantageous but is not essential. What matters most is strong technical depth, sound judgement and a practical, security-minded approach.

You’ll also need to be happy to travel to our Sunshine Coast site and occasionally work outside business hours for planned maintenance.
