Yarn2Action is a statewide advocacy service supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability. Through culturally safe advocacy, information and support, we help people understand their rights, have their voices heard and access the services and supports they need.
About the Opportunity
We’re seeking a Disability Advocate to work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability, helping them uphold their rights, overcome barriers and make informed choices about their lives.

This is an Identified position. ADA Australia considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act QLD 1991.
In this Role, You Will
- Provide advocacy, information and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability.
- Work alongside people, families and carers to address concerns and overcome barriers.
- Support people to uphold their rights and make informed decisions.
- Conduct culturally safe intake and advocacy support activities.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with communities, organisations and service providers.
- Represent ADA Australia at community events, forums and engagement activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and help identify emerging community needs.
About You
You are passionate about human rights, inclusion and supporting people to have their voices heard. You have strong connections with, or experience working alongside, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and are committed to culturally safe practice.
You will bring:
- Qualifications in human services, social work, behavioural science, community services or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting or advocating for people with disability and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and advocacy skills.
- The ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong written, administrative and computer skills.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to person-centred practice.
Essential Requirements
- Current Australian Driver Licence.
- Current National Criminal History Certificate.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
- Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight trips.
