About the Role 

We are looking for a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead the multidisciplinary team of Software Engineers, DevOps Engineer and Solution Architect that builds and runs MetroMap, owning the platform’s stability, security and growth. This is a full-time role based in Adelaide, working on-site with WFH flexibility. 

Key Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership & Delivery 

• Remain technically engaged across the full stack, unblocking the team through code reviews, prototyping architectural solutions, and pairing on complex problems 
• Partner with the Solution Architect to guide and evolve AWS solutions for MetroMap, with a focus on scalability, performance and cost efficiency 
• Take end-to-end ownership of MetroMap’s software lifecycle, from architecture and build through to deployment and production operations 
• Work directly with AI tools and solutions, from evaluation through to integration and production use  

People & Team Leadership 

• Lead, coach and develop a multidisciplinary team 
• Run agile delivery working with executives and product management to deliver the roadmap 
• Champion secure development and best-practice engineering across the team 

Key Initiatives 

• Lead major programs of work, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) migration, AWS cost optimisation and cloud storage streamlining 
• Drive the design, governance, and responsible integration of agentic AI tools and solutions into MetroMap 

Platform Stability 

• Act as a key escalation point for the stability, availability and performance of the MetroMap platform 
• Lead the response to critical incidents, and drive post-incident reviews and preventative improvements 

About You 

You’re a technical leader first and foremost – someone who can bring out the best in a team of experienced specialists, align them around a shared vision, and build a culture of trust and accountability. You take real ownership of your platform and your people, know when to step in and when to escalate, and treat security and quality as essential. 

You’ll bring: 

• 7+ years in software development, including 3+ years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams 
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and manage the performance and growth of experienced technical specialists 
• Strong Python skills, including API frameworks and high-performance data processing pipelines 
• Strong AWS experience across cloud architecture, cost optimisation and IAM 
• Working knowledge of secure development, access control and vulnerability management 
• Strong communication skills and the ability to turn stakeholder needs into clear requirements 
• Effective stakeholder management working with executives, vendors and third-party specialists
• A degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent training 

It would be great if you also bring: 

• Experience building a SaaS product from inception to a production-ready, commercially deployed solution 
• Experience with large-scale spatial data or multi-cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) 
• Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK 
• Experience with agentic AI systems and their governance 
• Familiarity with modern frontend/backend frameworks (e.g., React, TypeScript, Node.js). 
• AWS Solutions Architect or AI/ML certification
