Background

The resort is owned by the Wunan Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Kununurra, Western Australia. It was established in 1997 to provide support and services to the Indigenous people of the East Kimberley region. One of the main goals of the foundation is to promote economic development and self-sufficiency for Indigenous communities in the region.

In 2020, the Wunan Foundation purchased the Lily Lagoon Resort. The purchase was part of the foundation's broader strategy to promote economic development and employment opportunities for Indigenous people in the region.

By acquiring the resort, the Wunan Foundation was able to support a local Indigenous-owned business and provide employment opportunities for Indigenous people in the region.

Wunan’s purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices leading to independent and fulfilling lives. Essentially, to have dreams and a real chance of achieving them.

To achieve this, Wunan has developed six strategic priority area: Leadership, Education, Employment, Housing, Health and Commercial.

About the Role

The overall purpose of this role of the Commercial Housekeeper (Supervisor) is to ensure the smooth operation of the housekeeping department at Lily Lagoon Resort, Kununurra. The Commercial Housekeeper (Supervisor) works closely with other departments/ managers/ supervisors to ensure the resort, and public areas are well presented and to adhere to the policies and procedures of the resort. The works with other team members to support the successful development and running of the Lily Lagoon Resort, with a focus on creating a profitable social enterprise and an Aboriginal training and employment hub for the East Kimberley, as well as to support the broader objectives of Wunan.

The breadth of role and supervisory responsibility may vary throughout the year depending on the season and the offering of the resort and staffing. The role involves supervising and training one or more housekeeping staff overall or during a specific shift.

Key Duties

Supervising and inspecting the day-to-day work of housekeeping staff overall or a specific shift
Ensuring that productivity is achieved and ensure timely room return
Ensuring the housekeeping team cleans the guests’ or workers’ rooms, cabins, or tents, and associated public areas to highest standards.
Ensuring that guest requests and other special cleaning requirements are met
Allocating duties to housekeeping staff
May include training of housekeeping team members
Co-ordinating workforce during shift to meet daily deadlines
Checking rooms to ensure a high standard is met
Releasing rooms on time for guests
Attending to guest enquiries, requests and complaints
Monitoring as required the disposal of laundry and garbage
Laising with maintenance and front office departments
Ensuring safe manual lifting procedures are adhered to
May involve management of a housekeeping staff roster
Ensuring Workplace Health and Safety procedures are adhered to
Managing stock of cleaning products (including their safe storage), and setting and adhering to budget controls
May include monitoring and reporting issues with cleaning equipment and arranging repairs and maintenance

Requirements of the role

Relevant AQF qualification
Currently in Kununurra or willing to relocate at a short notice
Previous experience essential, minimum 3 years of relevant supervisorial role
Superior time management skills, multitasking skills and the ability to priorities tasks with minimal supervision
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude; experience coordinating a team of at least 4 staff members

Desirable criteria:

Experience working with indigenous people or an ACCO
Experience working in a remote environment

Pre-employment requirements

. Satisfactory Criminal Check (not older than 6 months)
. Current Australian unrestricted 'C' class Driver's License.
. Working With Children Clearance may be required.

Salary $65,000 to $70,000 per annum
