Description

Summary:

At TMS Ltd, we deliver complex marine and civil engineering projects in some of the most challenging environments across the UK. Our work is fast-paced, safety-critical, and demands a high level of technical excellence and operational discipline.

We are looking to appoint a capable and driven Site Engineer to join our Operations team, supporting both planned and emergency works across land and marine projects. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in delivering high-quality engineering solutions on site — ensuring accuracy, safety, and programme delivery in equal measure.

Working closely with Project Managers, site teams, and supply chain partners, you will be trusted to take ownership of engineering control, technical delivery, and problem solving in live project environments. The role requires someone who thrives under pressure, can make clear decisions, and is comfortable operating in a high-risk, operational setting.

If you are looking to develop your career within marine construction and want to work on varied, technically challenging projects, TMS offers a dynamic environment where your contribution makes a visible impact.

Key Responsibilities:

1. 1. Setting Out & Engineering Control

  • Carry out accurate setting out for marine and land-based works including piling, dredging support works, quay walls, marine structures, earthworks, and infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain primary and secondary control points using appropriate survey equipment (e.g. GPS, total station).
  • Verify design levels, positions, and tolerances prior to and during construction.
  • Manage as-built surveys and ensure records are produced to required standards.
  • Work closely with survey teams (where applicable) to ensure alignment and accuracy of data.

2. Technical Delivery & Construction Support

  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design information.
  • Identify and resolve design discrepancies or constructability issues with designers and project stakeholders.
  • Provide clear technical guidance to site teams, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Support the sequencing and methodology of works in line with programme requirements.
  • Assist with temporary works coordination, ensuring methods comply with design and safety requirements.

3.Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
  • Implement and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and quality records.
  • Carry out site inspections, checks, and audits to verify compliance.
  • Manage non-conformance reporting (NCRs) and oversee corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate site records including site diaries, quality documentation, and as-built information.

4.Health, Safety & Environmental Management

  • Promote and enforce safe systems of work in line with TMS policies and CDM regulations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and safe work packs.
  • Ensure works are delivered in compliance with high-risk marine and civil construction safety requirements (e.g. lifting operations, working over water, confined spaces).
  • Identify hazards proactively and intervene where unsafe practices are observed.
  • Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions where required.

5.Programme & Productivity Support

  • Support the planning and coordination of daily site activities in line with programme requirements.
  • Monitor progress against programme and report variances or delays.
  • Assist in short-term planning (look-ahead programmes).
  • Work with site supervisors and managers to optimise productivity and sequencing.

6.Commercial & Cost Awareness

  • Provide accurate records to support measurement and valuation of works.
  • Assist with site measurements for interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Highlight potential commercial risks, variations, and scope changes.
  • Support the commercial team with substantiation of claims and variations.

7.Stakeholder & Subcontractor Management

  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure works are delivered to required standards.
  • Coordinate with clients, designers, and consultants where required.
  • Support effective communication between office and site teams.
  • Attend site meetings and contribute technical input to progress discussions.

8. Materials, Plant & Logistics Coordination

  • Ensure materials are available, correctly specified, and fit for purpose.
  • Verify materials comply with design and specification requirements.
  • Support coordination of plant and equipment required for works.
  • Monitor use of materials to minimise waste and unnecessary cost.

9. Marine & Multi-Discipline Integration

  • Support engineering activities involving marine plant (e.g. barges, pontoons, dredging operations, piling rigs).
  • Ensure coordination between marine and landside operations.
  • Understand tidal, weather, and environmental constraints on marine construction activities.
  • Assist with mobilisation and demobilisation of marine equipment.

10. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate site records.
  • Produce daily reports, progress updates, and engineering documentation.
  • Ensure documentation is audit-ready and aligned with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to handover documentation and project completion records.

Qualifications & Experience:

·Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in civil engineering, ideally within marine or infrastructure projects.

·Proven experience in setting out and use of survey equipment.

·Experience working on marine construction, civil construction, heavy infrastructure or comparable complexity projects desirable.

·Knowledge of CDM regulations and UK construction standards.

·Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
