Outline of role

We are looking for a skilled Statutory Compliance Engineer to manage gas safety compliance and related building services contracts. You will ensure our operations meet all legal, corporate, and safety standards while promoting a proactive compliance culture. The role includes overseeing internal and contractor performance, managing compliance systems, and ensuring accurate data reporting. You’ll also play a key part in enhancing processes, coordinating service delivery, and supporting operational excellence.

Main responsibilities

• Lead and manage gas compliance activities, ensuring adherence to all statutory, regulatory, and organisational requirements.
• Act as the Responsible Person for gas safety and provide specialist technical guidance across the business.
• Manage gas compliance contracts and contractor performance, ensuring service standards, budgets, and KPIs are achieved.
• Verify that contractors and internal teams hold the correct competencies, qualifications, and accreditations for the work being undertaken.
• Carry out regular compliance audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
• Monitor, review, and maintain accurate compliance records, certifications, servicing schedules, and remedial works data.
• Produce compliance reports and ensure all relevant systems are updated and maintained accurately.
• Develop, review, and implement policies, procedures, and control measures to support continuous improvement.
• Work closely with clients, colleagues, tenants, contractors, and external stakeholders to deliver a high-quality service.
• Provide training, support, and advice to staff and contractors on compliance processes, systems, and regulatory requirements.
• Support procurement activities, including preparing specifications, tender documentation, and contract evaluations.
• Manage budgets effectively and identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining compliance standards.

Knowledge and experience required

Essential

• Minimum 5 years’ experience within commercial gas environments.
• ACS Commercial Gas Safe certification.
• Proven experience managing large-scale compliance contracts and contractor performance.
• Strong working knowledge of gas safety legislation, regulations, and building compliance requirements.
• Experience undertaking audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
• Experience managing compliance databases, systems, and performance reporting.
• Demonstrable experience of maintaining statutory compliance within a property, facilities, or building services environment.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK.

Desirable

• Experience working within a multi-site property portfolio.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and wider health and safety legislation.
• Experience supporting procurement and contract mobilisation activities.
• Membership of a recognised professional body.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance management systems.
• Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement effective solutions.

Qualifications

Essential

• ACS Commercial Gas Safe Certification.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• HNC in Building Services Engineering, Gas Engineering, or a related discipline.
• ASGM Level 4 qualification or equivalent.
• IOSH Managing Safely.
• CITB SMSTS.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
