The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for concept generation through to production release, ensuring all designs are compliant, manufacturable, commercially viable, and aligned with real‑world user needs.
Accountabilities (with Metrics)
1. Innovation & Product Development Delivery
Deliver approved product concepts through to validated production-ready designs within agreed project timelines.
- % of projects delivered on schedule

2. Design Quality & Compliance
Ensure all designs meet applicable regulatory standards, safety requirements, and real-world performance expectations.
- Zero critical compliance failures
- Successful verification and validation outcomes
- Reduction in post-release design-related NCRs
3. Manufacturing Readiness & Documentation
Issue accurate, complete manufacturing drawings and technical documentation that enable efficient production.
- First-pass approval of released drawings
- Reduction in production queries related to design documentation
- ECO frequency related to documentation errors
4. Advanced Manufacturing & Cross-Industry Integration
Investigate and apply manufacturing techniques from other industries to improve product performance, cost, or scalability.

5. Capability Uplift & Technical Leadership
Mentor and support design engineers to strengthen team capability and design standards.

Responsibilities
- Generate innovative product concepts aligned with customer and clinical needs.
- Develop concepts into detailed 3D models and production-ready designs.
- Produce and release manufacturing drawings and supporting documentation.
- Conduct engineering analysis, tolerance reviews, and design-for-manufacture assessments.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and clinical stakeholders to ensure practical and compliant outcomes.
- Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods from adjacent industries.
- Lead design reviews and contribute to stage-gate decision processes.
- Support verification and validation testing activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with quality management system requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) – required
- Proven experience in product design and development within a regulated or manufacturing environment
- Strong CAD capability (advanced 3D modelling and drawing release)
- Demonstrated experience taking products from concept through to production
- Experience working with manufacturing teams and suppliers
- Understanding of relevant engineering standards and compliance frameworks
