Your Next Great Opportunity Awaits

Based in Christchurch, you will be part of a team that champions four core values.

  • Ethical Solutions means we focus on doing the right thing for our clients, communities, and the environment.
  • Everything Shared reflects the collaborative way we work. Knowledge, ideas, and success are shared across the team.
  • Enduring Savvy represents our focus on practical, intelligent solutions that stand the test of time.
  • Empowering Support means creating a workplace where people are encouraged to grow, contribute, and succeed.

Why Join Us

We offer a competitive remuneration package that reflects your experience and expertise. Flexible working arrangements support a healthy balance between work and life, and we provide life insurance and health insurance along with ongoing professional development opportunities. You will be joining a supportive team that values collaboration, innovation, and a positive working culture.

Our planning team has strong working relationships with councils across the South Island and a reputation for delivering practical, well-considered planning advice. Our planners work across a wide range of projects, including private plan changes, large-scale land development, and complex site-specific matters.

This role is suited to a senior planner who brings broad planning knowledge and experience across the resource management framework, both within and outside council processes. The role goes well beyond standard consenting work and involves applying strategic thinking and practical advice to a variety of planning challenges.

Your Impact

As a Senior Planner within our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with Urban Designers, Engineers, Surveyors, and GIS Specialists to deliver integrated project outcomes.

You will be advising on a wide range of planning matters, working with District and Regional Councils, contributing to private plan changes and development projects, and preparing planning assessments, reports, and submissions. The role also involves navigating complex environmental and regulatory matters and contributing to broader planning discussions that influence project outcomes.

A key part of the role will be supporting and mentoring junior planners within the team, helping them build capability and confidence as they develop their careers.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a senior planning professional with at least ten years of relevant planning experience in New Zealand. Experience within consultancy, local government, or both will be highly valued.

You will hold tertiary qualifications in planning, resource management, or a related discipline and be a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute.

You will bring strong knowledge of relevant planning legislation, excellent communication and report writing skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. We value people who are proactive, solutions focused, and who enjoy contributing to a positive team environment. A sense of humour also helps.

Join Us

At Eliot Sinclair you will work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment where your expertise is valued, and your contribution has a real impact.

If you are an experienced planner looking to contribute to meaningful projects and help shape the future of planning outcomes across the South Island, we would love to hear from you.
