SEEK Cut the Cord. Here’s What We’re Doing About It.

Yesterday, SEEK informed us that it will terminate our API access, effective 25 August 2025.

The decision was made under a “no cause” clause. There was no issue of non-compliance. There was no collaborative discussion. It was a formal decision to remove access and disrupt how thousands of businesses manage their hiring through SEEK.

We were surprised. Our history with SEEK spans years of collaboration culminating in Gold Partner status. But their customer message yesterday described a shift in “strategic direction.” On that point, we agree. The paths we are pursuing are very different.

Employment Hero is building a world where recruitment is faster, easier, and free. Our recruitment tools, including SmartMatch, allows businesses to access quality candidates directly within our platform. There are no listing fees. No extra costs per role. Just faster time to hire and less admin. We’re proud to provide any business with free access to hire staff now. 

SEEK’s strategy appears to double down on paid listings. That may serve investors in the short term but it does not serve employers who are already managing rising operational costs.

We are moving forward.

Our SmartMatch engine is already delivering better outcomes. Just last week, a construction firm in Melbourne filled three roles without spending anything on paid advertising. We are also scaling hiring reach through Indeed, LinkedIn, and our free Employment Hero Job Board. Customers can showcase open roles through custom-branded careers pages at no cost.

We have been working directly with customers most affected by this change. Our team is helping them transition to new workflows, test alternative sourcing options, and stay focused on successful hiring outcomes.

This moment represents a shift. Not just for us, but for an entire industry that deserves more than a one-size-fits-all paywall. Our customers want speed, value, and flexibility. That is exactly what we are delivering with SmartMatch.
