About the Role

The General Practitioner is a pivotal member of Yadu’s Primary Health Care team and is responsible for providing comprehensive health care to Aboriginal people and the wider community across Ceduna and surrounding areas.

The starting clinical model is approximately 16 to 18 planned appointments per day, with a mix of standard and longer appointments. The role allows time for results, recalls, referrals, care coordination, clinical governance, outreach and other necessary non-consulting work in order to ensure best possible care.

The successful candidate may also participate in a shared Ceduna Hospital and emergency services on-call roster under a separately agreed arrangement.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing high-quality general practice services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, preventative care and chronic disease management.
• Delivering culturally safe health care to patients across all age groups, including residential aged care patients.
• Coordinating patient care with Aboriginal health practitioners and workers, nurses, visiting specialists, allied health professionals and community services.
• Maintaining accurate clinical records through Communicare and ensuring appropriate and compliant Medicare billing.
• Participating in outreach services and the shared Ceduna Hospital on-call roster, including emergency assessment and stabilisation within the doctor’s qualifications, experience and credentialing.

This role requires someone who is proactive, culturally respectful and deeply aligned with Yadu’s mission to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.

About You

To thrive in this position, we are looking for candidates who can meet the following criteria:

• A recognised medical degree and experience in General Practice.
• Current unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA.
• Fellowship of the RACGP, ACRRM or a recognised equivalent.
• Vocational registration.
• A current Medicare provider number or eligibility to obtain one.
• Current medical indemnity insurance.
• Contemporary knowledge of General Practice, chronic disease management and relevant clinical pathways.
• A strong understanding of the health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families and communities.
• A commitment to culturally safe, comprehensive and community-controlled primary health care.
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team.
• Valid Driver Licence (Class C or equivalent).
• Have permanent work rights in Australia without needing employer sponsorship.

Experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO), Aboriginal health service, and rural or remote communities will be highly regarded.
