The College

Worawa Aboriginal College is a vision-led, Aboriginal-owned and governed College dedicated to empowering young Aboriginal women through education, culture and connection.

Located on a beautiful 136-acre property in the Yarra Valley, approximately 60 kilometres from Melbourne CBD, Worawa is a boarding school for Aboriginal girls in their secondary years of schooling, with students coming from communities across Australia.

The Role

As a member of the Academic Team, Learning Support staff work alongside teachers to provide individualised support that helps students engage, learn and grow.

You will support students within the classroom as well as working with individuals and small groups across a range of year levels. This may include reinforcing literacy and numeracy skills, supporting students to work towards their individual learning goals, assisting with classroom activities and helping students remain engaged and confident in their learning.

This role would suit someone who is patient, adaptable and genuinely enjoys building relationships with young people. Full-time is preferred, with part-time arrangements considered.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• A calm, caring and patient approach to working with young people.
• The ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with students and staff.
• The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other members of the Academic Team.
• The ability to adapt their approach to meet individual student learning needs, including EAL/D.
• Good organisation and time management skills.
• A commitment to culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice.

A Certificate IV in School Based Education Support or equivalent qualification and/or relevant experience will be highly regarded. Student teachers are also encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will require a current Working with Children Check and Police Check and will be required to meet the College’s child safety, mandatory reporting and First Aid requirements.

Experience working with Aboriginal young people or communities and Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training would be highly regarded.
