General Practitioner with Special Interest in Child Health

Full-time or substantial part-time (4 – 5 days) (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm)

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services (Winnunga AHCS) is Canberra’s only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra, we deliver trusted, holistic healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the ACT and surrounding regions. We are seeking experienced and culturally competent General Practitioners to join our multidisciplinary team including GPs, visiting specialists, nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health specialists, social health and admin support.

This exceptionally professional and committed staff member will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Promote optimal health and developmental outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infants, children and adolescents through the delivery of evidence-based, culturally safe and holistic care.
• Provide comprehensive primary health care and Child Health services, including preventive health, developmental assessment and early intervention.
• Participate in care planning, case conferencing, and continuous quality improvement initiatives relevant to maternal and child health.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment, facilitating timely referral to paediatricians, allied health professionals, mental health services, social health teams and external agencies
• Lead on complex case co-ordination, integrating input from multiple providers and external agencies to ensure coordinated care for children and their families.
• Provide general primary healthcare when required, contributing to GP walk-in clinics depending on patient demand, service priorities, and workforce needs.
• Maintain highest standards of professional conduct.

We are looking for exceptionally empathetic and resilient person who has:

• specialist registration with AHPRA
• strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and cultures to ensure culturally safe interactions
• excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

• ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including GPs, nurses, paediatricians, and allied health professionals
• ability to manage competing priorities effectively with great attention to detail and accuracy
• deep care for integrity and professionalism in every interaction (internal and external)
