SEASONAL EQUINE VETERINARY NURSE

For more than 20 years, Westbury Stud has been operating at the top end of the New Zealand Thoroughbred industry breeding elite racehorses who consistently out-perform on the global stage.

Westbury Stud is seeking two experienced Seasonal Equine Veterinary Nurses to join our dedicated team for the 2025 foaling season. Based in the Waikato, this full-time position is ideal for skilled individuals who are passionate about intensive equine care and thrive in a busy, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor post-partum mares and neonatal foals in our foaling unit

• Assist with foalings and emergency care

• Administer treatments, including IV fluids and tube feeding

• Maintain accurate treatment records

• Support veterinarians during farm visits and treatments

• Clean and manage stables, ensuring strict biosecurity protocols are followed

• Draw up medications and organise medical supplies

• Contribute to overnight monitoring and participate in the on-call roster as required

About You:

• Prior experience in equine veterinary nursing is essential

• Confident in handling mares and foals, especially in high-pressure situations

• Skilled in medication administration, IV fluids, neonatal care, bandaging, and general equine nursing duties

• Knowledgeable about medications, including dosage rates and contraindications

• Veterinary nursing qualification preferred but not required

• Able to work well in a team and communicate effectively with senior staff and vets

• Must be eligible to work in New Zealand — applicants with a working holiday visa will be considered (this position is not eligible for an Accredited Employer Work Visa)
