The Legal Advisor provides authoritative, culturally informed legal advice and strategic leadership to VACYPA and the broader Aboriginal community-controlled organisation (ACCO) sector. The role leads the planning and operationalisation of new information sharing functions under the Youth Justice Act 2024, supports ACCO Aboriginal Children in Aboriginal Care (ACAC) providers to apply legislative frameworks in their day-to-day work, and ensures VACYPA’s legal function is proactive, trauma-informed, and grounded in Aboriginal self-determination. The role also assists with policy and practice development for ACAC providers across the state and provides coordinated implementation advice on other legal matters affecting ACAC providers.
