Description

📋 Job Summary

The Pre-Cast Yard Boilermaker is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of structural steel molds, forms, and machinery within a concrete production facility. This role ensures that all steel casting beds and shutters are perfectly aligned, structurally sound, and built to precise engineering tolerances so that the concrete poured into them meets strict quality standards.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

Mold Fabrication & Modification

  • Fabricate and assemble steel molds, forms, and shutters according to engineering drawings and technical blueprints.
  • Modify existing steel casting beds to adapt to changing project design requirements.
  • Install and secure bulkheads, chamfers, and internal steel features within the molds.

Welding & Engineering Tasks

  • Perform high-quality welding (typically MIG/GMAW, Stick/MMAW, and Flux-Core) on structural steel components.
  • Utilize oxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and magnetic drills to cut and shape steel sections.
  • Ensure all welds meet structural integrity codes and can withstand the extreme hydraulic pressure of wet, vibrating concrete.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair steel casting tables and automated pallet systems to prevent concrete leakage and deformation.
  • Straighten warped steel plates and repair cracks caused by the continuous stress of stripping and cleaning cycles.
  • Assist in maintaining plant machinery, including concrete distributors, curing chamber components, and overhead crane attachments.

Precision & Quality Control

  • Work to tight tolerances (often within +/- 1–2mm) to ensure the pre-cast panels, beams, or columns fit perfectly on construction sites.
  • Use precision measuring tools (callipers, squares, laser levels) to verify mold dimensions before concrete pouring.

⚙️ Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Trade Qualification: A recognized certificate or apprenticeship in Engineering (Fabrication Trade), Boilermaking, or Structural Welding.
  • Welding Proficiency: Proven experience in structural steel welding with relevant certifications (e.g., AS1554 or local equivalents).
  • Blueprint Reading: Strong capability to interpret complex structural engineering and workshop drawings.
  • Rigging & Crane Operations: Experience or licensing in dogging, rigging, or overhead gantry crane operation is highly valued, as moving heavy steel forms is a daily task.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to handle heavy lifting, bending, and working in loud, dusty, and outdoor environments typical of a concrete yard.
