About The Role:

The Preclinical Scientist plays a key role in supporting Vaxxas’ vaccine research and development programs through the planning, execution and reporting of preclinical studies and the development, optimisation and transfer of analytical and bioanalytical assays. Working within the Early Stage and RNA Programs team, this role will contribute to testing, troubleshooting, data analysis and scientific reporting while collaborating across a range of disciplines to support the advancement of innovative vaccine technologies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing of vaccine products and samples using bioanalytical techniques and immunoassays.
• Characterise a range of vaccine platforms, including proteins, microorganisms, virus-like particles (VLPs), lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and nucleic acid-based vaccines.
• Develop, optimise and troubleshoot analytical and bioanalytical methods to support vaccine development programs.
• Identify, develop and transfer assay methods for use within Vaxxas and with external collaborators.
• Design, plan and execute preclinical studies, applying scientific expertise to generate high-quality data.
• Conduct laboratory experiments and provide technical and analytical support across multiple projects.
• Analyse, interpret and document experimental results in accordance with quality requirements.

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, SOPs, assay methods and supporting scientific documentation.
• Support laboratory operations, including preparation of buffers and reagents, equipment maintenance, and management of consumables.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including formulation, analytical, engineering, quality and regulatory stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, or related discipline.

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Experience working in preclinical research, preferably within vaccines, biologics or pharmaceutical development environments.
• Hands-on experience with bioanalytical and immunological assays such as ELISA, protein assays, Western Blot, haemagglutination inhibition and related techniques.
• Experience developing, optimising, troubleshooting and documenting analytical methods.
• Understanding of assay transfer processes and scientific documentation requirements.
• Experience working to GLP and/or GMP standards is highly regarded.
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present scientific findings clearly.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within cross-functional teams.
