PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

In a multidisciplinary team environment, the Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing supports and assists the provision of safe, consumer centred and effective care for consumers in various care settings in accordance with the relevant legislation, an organisations policies and procedures and professional standards of practice. The Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing will at all times comply with the core values of the TripleCN – Nursing Agency and those of the organisation in which they work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
FUNCTIONAL

  • Participates actively as a member of the nursing team.
  • Ensures Infection Control practices are followed at all times.
  • Ensures that the privacy and dignity of consumers is maintained at all times and that all matters relating to their care is handled confidentially.
  • Monitor and safely maintain the environment.
  • Respond to the emotional, spiritual and cultural needs of consumers.
  • Provide personal hygiene including mouth care, hair care, sponging or showering as well as bed making.
  • Conducts pressure area risk assessment and care/ positioning and safe manual handling practices.
  • Records and reports observations attended, TPR, BP, oxygen saturations, pain scores, urinalysis, BGL, weight, height and girth measurements where appropriate.
  • Assist with consumer mobility, prescribed exercises and deep breathing and coughing exercises.
  • Provide bed pans or urinals and the collection of specimens.
  • Attend simple wound care and the collection of wound swabs.
  • Attend plaster checks.
  • Remove IV cannulas.
  • Escort consumers if necessary.
  • Attend nursing assessments such as Falls Risk
  • Apply Anti-embolic stockings
  • Attend accurate and timely documentation of care provided, contemporaneous reporting is the preferred method. Document should be completed in accordance with TripleCN Nursing Agency Consumer Case Notes Policy and Procedure, NSW Health Guidelines and the relevant hospital, aged care facilities and community services policies and procedures.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing Program at a University.
  • MUST BE a current 2nd or 3rd year nursing student enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing program.
  • Sound communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution strategies and assertiveness.
  • Proven ability to work as an effective, responsible and positive team member.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage his/her workload.
  • Ability to apply learned knowledge to the field of practice.
  • Willingness to act and perform with integrity and in the best interest of TripleCN and the facility you are working for.
  • Compliant with National Criminal Record and Working with Children Background checks.
  • Compliant with NDIS Worker Check – mandatory if wanting to work in Aged Care.
  • Right to Work in Australia.
  • Willingness to participate in and comply with the NSW Health policy for screening, assessment and vaccination
