Description

Melbourne CBD | Appointment Setter / Business Development Consultant | Full-time | 6-month contract

Build relationships. Create opportunities. Help grow a business that makes a difference.

Tradewind Australia is looking for an experienced Business Development Consultant to join our Melbourne team on an initial six-month contract.

This role is focused on starting meaningful conversations with prospective and existing clients across our Social Services divisions, identifying opportunities and connecting organisations with the right Tradewind consultant.

If you enjoy speaking with people, are confident picking up the phone, can build rapport quickly and know how to turn an initial conversation into a genuine business opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role

You’ll work closely with our recruitment teams to help identify and develop new client opportunities, while also reconnecting with organisations already familiar with Tradewind.

Your focus will be on creating quality conversations and booking meetings for our consultants, rather than managing the full recruitment process yourself.

Day to day, you will:

  • Proactively engage prospective and existing clients by phone and email
  • Identify the right contacts within organisations and build relationships with key decision-makers
  • Introduce Tradewind, our services and the sectors we support
  • Understand an organisation’s recruitment needs and identify where Tradewind may be able to assist
  • Book qualified meetings for our recruitment consultants
  • Re-engage previous clients and explore opportunities to work together again
  • Follow up leads and opportunities consistently
  • Maintain accurate records and activity within our CRM
  • Work through targeted prospect lists while identifying new opportunities
  • Develop a strong understanding of our Education and Social Services markets
  • Provide additional support to our recruitment teams during periods of leave or increased activity, including candidate phone screens and other recruitment-related tasks

What we’re looking for

You may come from appointment setting, business development, outbound sales, recruitment, account management or another phone-based role.

More importantly, you’ll be someone who is comfortable starting conversations and building relationships with people you haven’t spoken with before.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Previous experience in business development, appointment setting, outbound sales, recruitment or a similar environment
  • Confidence speaking with prospective clients over the phone
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to ask good questions, listen and identify opportunities
  • Resilience and confidence when a conversation doesn’t immediately lead somewhere
  • A professional and engaging phone manner
  • Strong organisation and follow-up skills
  • Initiative and the ability to manage your own activity
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support different teams when required

You don’t need to be the loudest salesperson in the room. We’re looking for someone who can build rapport, represent Tradewind professionally and create genuine opportunities through consistent, thoughtful activity.

Why Tradewind?

Tradewind Australia is a specialist recruitment agency working across Education and Social Services.

The organisations we work with provide essential services to communities, and we take the responsibility of connecting them with great people seriously.

We are a people-focused, values-led business with a supportive culture and a strong emphasis on relationships, development and giving our employees the flexibility to do their best work.

When you join Tradewind, you can expect:

  • An initial six-month contract with potential to extend or become permanent depending on business requirements
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Regular learning and development opportunities
  • Access to Tradewind’s wellbeing initiatives and employee benefits
  • Regular team and company social events
  • The opportunity to work across two established recruitment markets
  • Exposure to different areas of recruitment and business development
  • The autonomy to take ownership of your role while having support around you when you need it

A little about how we work

Tradewind operates in a hybrid environment, so this role will suit someone who is comfortable managing their own activity and creating momentum independently.

You’ll have support from experienced recruitment leaders and consultants, but you won’t be working from a heavily scripted call centre environment.

We trust our people to take ownership, use their judgement and find the approach that works best.

Success in this role will come from consistency, curiosity, resilience and your ability to have genuine conversations with clients.
