Description
Lead the commercial future of one of the Surf Coast’s most diverse resorts
About us
The Sands Torquay is more than a hotel. Alongside 112 guest rooms, the resort is home to a stunning restaurant and bar, a busy conference and events business, a championship golf club and a full health club with gym, pool and fitness classes. It’s a rare property where every part of the business has a commercial story to tell, and we’re looking for the leader to bring those stories together. We work closely with hotel owners to lift performance, and we back our leaders with the support of an experienced mangement team.
About the role
Reporting to the General Manager, the Commercial Director holds overall responsibility for revenue, marketing and communications, revenue management and digital marketing across the whole resort. This is a newly shaped role that brings sales, marketing, events and revenue under one leader, so each area works towards shared goals rather than in isolation.
You’ll lead a team that includes the Sales and Community Events / Partnerships Manager, Conference and Events Manager, Marketing Manager and the Reservations team. You’ll also be the key internal contact for our revenue management partner.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and leading a single commercial strategy across Accommodation, Restaurants and Bars, Events, the Golf Club and the Health Club
- Setting annual targets and budgets for each business unit with the General Mana
- ger and department heads
- Leading, coaching and developing a multi-disciplinary commercial team
- Overseeing the sales pipeline, corporate and group accounts, and strategic partnerships
- Owning brand positioning, marketing and communications across every guest and member touchpoint
- Working with our revenue management partner on pricing, packaging and distribution, and extending revenue thinking to tee times, membership pricing and function space
- Overseeing website performance, digital channels and online conversion
- Ensuring the events calendar is commercially sound and deliverable
- Owning the commercial budget and delivering clear, regular performance reporting
In your first three to six months, you’ll set working rhythms with your team, align existing plans under one strategy, identify quick wins and build a consistent reporting pack for the General Manager.
About you
You’re a senior commercial leader who can set the big-picture direction and still roll up your sleeves when the detail matters. You’ll bring:
- Significant experience in a senior sales, marketing or commercial leadership role, ideally with people leadership
- A proven record of setting and delivering commercial strategy and revenue targets
- Sound knowledge of sales, marketing, revenue management, events and digital marketing
- Experience managing budgets and reporting on commercial performance
- Strong stakeholder skills, including working with external partners and agencies
- Confidence with CRM, revenue management systems and Microsoft 365
Experience in hospitality, tourism, golf, club or leisure environments, or working with outsourced functions such as revenue management, will be highly regarded. A tertiary qualification in business, marketing or hospitality management is desirable.
Why join us?
- Shape a newly created senior role with genuine scope and influence
- Work across five distinct business units on one stunning coastal property
- Be supported by a growing management company and its corporate Commercial Team
- Enjoy the Surf Coast lifestyle
If you’re ready to bring a whole resort together under one commercial vision, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with your resume.
