Principal Consultant (Project Evaluation)
We are looking for a mining industry specialist with demonstratable leadership, financial acumen and business development skills to join our Sydney Technical Advisory team, where you will use your experience to consult on a range of exploration, development and mining projects for Australian and international clients supported by Senior and Principal Consultants.
The Role
Professionally, you will be consulting on a range of commodities, geographies and project evaluation areas, providing input into mergers, acquisitions, takeovers, insolvency and arbitration / litigation for our established clientele of global producers, mid-tiers and junior explorers as well as Australian and international stock exchanges, investors, financiers, accounting and legal advisors. You will also be actively participating in internal strategic planning, business development and marketing to promote our Technical Advisory capabilities, whilst collaborating with technically talented colleagues across various disciplines and in developing and supporting initiatives and capabilities nationally.
A working knowledge of the Australian mineral reporting framework, an established network of contacts in the mining industry (including exploration, mining, financial, legal and accounting advisors), strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal capabilities are essential for success in this role.

Our successful candidate will be based out of our Sydney office.
In a typical week you could expect to participate in:
- Management and preparation of technical assessment reports and mineral asset valuations,
- Evaluation and technical analysis of mineral projects for due diligence purposes, scenario design and techno-economic modelling in support of scoping to definitive feasibility studies,
- Analysis of project technical drivers (including costs, budgets and forecasts),
- Internal peer review,
- Delivering high-quality proposals and technical reports,
- Providing optimal solutions and decision support services to management and clients
- Expert witness representation.
Our successful candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualification in either Geology, Mine Engineering, Metallurgy [KP2] [GM3] or related subjects; with a relevant post graduate studies or professional experience in Commerce, Finance, or Economics.
- Strong financial skills, demonstrated business acumen and proficiency in the “business of mining”.
- Experience in a consulting environment with a demonstratable track record of establishing and maintaining a client base and building teams
- Strong knowledge of project evaluation, due diligence and mineral asset valuation.
- Experience in geostatistical analysis, geological modelling and Mineral Resource estimation.
- Professional registration required to sign-off as a Specialist on VALMIN Code Technical Assessment and/or Valuation reports, supported by adequate experience across a range of commodities.
- Proactive with enthusiasm for business development and growth.
- Confidence in using different technologies, and the ability to upskill on new systems quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high quality technical reports in English for a range of audiences
- Australian Resident or existing Working Visa
- Willingness to travel (domestic/international and possibly to remote locations)
