Senior Financial Analyst

Build the model that shapes our future. Own the numbers behind our biggest decisions.

Southern Cross Fertilisers is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Strategic Projects & Development team, based at our Brisbane corporate office on Eagle Street. This is a hands-on, senior role: you will build and own the corporate financial model that underpins our Life of Asset planning, and use it to evaluate capital projects, growth opportunities and funding decisions, working directly with the Executive Team.

About Us

Southern Cross Fertilisers operates Phosphate Hill and the Mount Isa Acid Plant — two interconnected operations in Northwest Queensland that rely on each other and play an important role in supporting our local communities and the wider region. The fertiliser we produce supports Australian farmers and contributes to food production here and around the world.

We are proudly Australian, resilient, diverse and deeply invested in our people, our operations and the region.

The way we work matters. Safety is fundamental to everything we do and guides every shift, with production never taking precedence over the wellbeing of our people. We operate with a strong focus on planning, consistency and accountability, setting clear standards, delivering on our commitments and learning from challenges. When things go wrong, we look beyond individual actions to understand the systems and processes involved, creating opportunities for continuous improvement. We encourage open reporting and honest conversations, fostering a culture focused on learning, improvement and shared responsibility rather than blame.

Southern Cross Fertilisers has built a strong reputation through the commitment and capability of our people. We provide meaningful work, encourage ownership and accountability, and empower our people to contribute to the performance of our operations and the ongoing success of our business.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Strategic Projects & Development, you will be the commercial and financial lead for a team whose work spans the full breadth of the ammonia phosphate value chain. The role is not tied to a single project. You will work across every workstream as a trusted commercial partner, bringing an objective, evidence-based view to help shape decisions before they are made.

You will build a new corporate financial model from the ground up. It will become the single source of truth for Life of Asset planning, debt and equity, and capital allocation. You will also rebuild the cost and evaluation framework used across all strategic and growth projects, and support the annual Life of Asset strategy review process.

Key Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Build, own and maintain an integrated three-statement corporate model covering the Life of Asset horizon, including debt and equity structures, funding scenarios, covenant testing and shareholder returns.
  • Document, validate and stress-test the key model assumptions from first principles, grounded in the physical drivers of the operation, and run the scenario and sensitivity analysis that shows what actually drives value.
  • Prepare and pressure-test business cases for strategic, capital and growth opportunities at each stage gate, including NPV, IRR, payback and risk-adjusted analysis.
  • Lead commercial and financial due diligence and valuation modelling for growth opportunities, acquisitions, divestments and offtake arrangements.
  • Turn complex analysis into clear, concise presentations for the Executive Team, focused on what matters for the decision.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and commercially minded professional who brings strong analytical capabilities, sound financial knowledge and a collaborative approach to their work.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in finance, commerce, economics, engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in corporate finance, financial modelling, investment evaluation or a related role.
  • Demonstrated experience building and owning integrated three-statement financial models.
  • Practical experience modelling debt and equity, including funding structures, covenants, debt servicing and returns.
  • Experience preparing business cases and investment evaluations for strategic, capital and growth opportunities.
  • Experience working alongside engineering and operations teams to build and validate production, cost and capital assumptions.
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills, with disciplined structure, documentation and version control.
  • Confidence presenting complex analysis clearly to senior executives, and constructively challenging assumptions wherever they come from.

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in mining, resources, chemicals or heavy industry.
  • Exposure to life-of-asset or life-of-mine planning.
  • Commercial or financial due diligence experience on acquisitions or third-party assets.
  • A background in project finance, corporate finance or transaction advisory.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MBA or Master of Finance) or professional accreditation such as CA, CPA or CFA.
