About The Role
A nursing role that sits at the centre of site health and safety. You’ll provide emergency care, first aid and occupational health services to everyone working at Phosphate Hill, and you’ll be the person people rely on when something goes wrong. Reporting to the H&S Superintendent, you’ll run the site medical centre and emergency equipment, carry out health monitoring and fitness-for-work testing, and lead the monthly health promotions. This is a remote site role with a 24/7 on-call component, so you’ll need to be confident making clinical decisions on your own.
What you’ll do
- Provide emergency medical treatment, pre-hospital trauma care and first aid to workers and visitors.
- Manage the Phosphate Hill medical centre, the emergency ambulance and all medical equipment and supplies.
- Handle injury management alongside the IPF injury management team and other key stakeholders.
- Perform fitness-for-work (alcohol and other drug) testing.
- Carry out occupational health and hygiene duties across NAO, including respirable dust monitoring.
- Develop and lead monthly health promotions tailored to the site and its people.
- Keep accurate health records and statistics, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Manage medications in line with the site’s drug licence.
- Maintain relationships with RFDS and health professionals in Townsville, Mt Isa and Dajarra.
- Be on call 24/7 for emergency calls.
- Take part in audits, risk assessments and health and safety meetings.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- Registered Nurse with current registration
- 5 years’ post-graduate experience
- Advanced Life Support (RN)
- Pre-hospital trauma life support (RN)
- First Aid and CPR competency
- HLTPAT005 – Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing
- BSBWHS419 – Monitoring Respirable Dust in Coal Mines, Mineral Mines and Quarries
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office
Highly desirable
- Previous emergency department or remote area experience
- Knowledge of the Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act and Regulations, or the ability to gain it
- Knowledge of health and safety advisory standards, and hygiene standards for the chemical industry, or the ability to gain it
- Experience with IRSSAP and Medical Director systems
