Import/Export Manager

Hemmant, Queensland 4174, Australia • Full-time

Description

Company Overview

South East Queensland Hauliers (SEQH) is a full-service wharf logistics provider located just five minutes from the Port of Brisbane. Founded in the 1960s, SEQH has grown into one of Queensland’s largest import/export carriers while remaining proudly family owned and operated.

With facilities in Hemmant and Toowoomba, we are investing in major infrastructure upgrades in 2025 due to strong business growth. Join a company that values people, embraces innovation, and leads the way in logistics and biosecurity operations.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Export/Import Manager to lead our biosecurity and customs division. Internally, this role is known as the Biosecurity, Customs & Logging Administration Lead. You will oversee compliance, export documentation, and quarantine services while driving system improvements and supporting team development. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll work closely with warehouse and logging teams to ensure smooth, audit-ready operations.

Why This Role Is Available

Our long-standing Biosecurity Lead is transitioning out of the full-time role to pursue a personal venture outside the industry. Their contributions have been instrumental in building the strength of the team, and they will remain connected with SEQH in a casual support capacity.

This change, combined with the ongoing growth in our services, has created an exciting opportunity for a new leader to step in and guide the next stage of our biosecurity and customs division.

Biosecurity Division Growth

SEQH’s biosecurity services have expanded rapidly, with a new wash bay opened and another underway at the Port of Brisbane. We’ve also added export cotton inspections to our offerings. This role is critical in supporting and shaping this fast-growing division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 10: wash bay staff, fumigation officers, biosecurity coordinator, and export admin
  • Oversee export documentation, log admin, and biosecurity compliance/coordination
  • Coordinate quarantine inspections, fumigations, LCL pickups, and export packing
  • Maintain Wave TMS and ICS systems to ensure accuracy and audit readiness
  • Support, train, and delegate to foster team accountability
  • Engage with customers and internal teams to resolve issues promptly
  • Drive digital transformation by eliminating spreadsheets and implementing integrated platforms
  • Assist warehouse operations and act as a deputy for the Warehouse Manager as needed

Why Join Us?

  • Variety of tasks – from biosecurity inspections to managing export processes and leading staff
  • Supportive management and collaborative team culture
  • Leadership opportunity with a growing team of 10
  • Stable, family-owned company with strong growth and innovation plans
  • Work/life balance and competitive pay
  • Ongoing training, including support from previous biosecurity lead
  • Free onsite parking, weekly pay, and exclusive staff discounts

What You’ll Bring

Must-Have:

  • Experience in biosecurity, quarantine, customs, or related logistics roles (Understanding of fumigation preferred but not essential)
  • A collaborative, team-focused approach
  • Strong attention to detail with a customer-first mindset
  • Proactive attitude with a drive to improve systems and processes
  • Ability to stay up to date with regulatory and legislative changes

Nice to Have:

  • Previous leadership or team coordination experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident using digital tools and systems (e.g. Wave TMS, ICS, Microsoft Office)
  • Current Quarantine Accreditation, or willingness to obtain
