The Role and The Challenge

We are seeking an exceptional, highly energetic, and proactive Staff .NET Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive the practical modernisation of our backend services.

If you are content with picking up standard tickets and waiting for top down direction, this is not the role for you. You will step into a high trust and fully empowered environment where you will lead architectural solutions, reuse existing technology assets, and build highly robust, secure, and scalable systems capable of handling extreme traffic variability inside AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Thought Leadership and Technical Direction: Act as a domain leader and proactive problem solver, setting architectural standards, guiding engineering squads, and shaping the future of our .NET ecosystem.
• Modernisation and Asset Reuse: Spearhead the practical modernisation of existing legacy services, intelligently reusing existing technology assets and refactoring backend architectures for optimal performance.
• Deep .NET Architecture: Design and build production grade systems around the core principles of the .NET framework, ensuring high throughput and minimal latency across varying traffic volumes.
• System Design and Production Operations: Own comprehensive system design, applying 12 factor app principles to ensure your software is robust, observable, and fully prepared to operate reliably in high scale production environments.
• AWS Infrastructure and Queuing: Deploy and scale .NET workloads inside AWS, utilising Amazon ECS and integrating seamlessly with AWS messaging and queuing technologies.
• Security Architecture: Architect secure backend solutions leveraging .NET security patterns, working safely within highly regulated enterprise environments to protect sensitive data.
• DevOps and Testing: Develop and maintain pipelines using GitHub Actions or TeamCity, implementing robust test automation practices including containerised workflows using Docker.

What You Bring (Technically)

• Staff Level Leadership: Proven commercial experience operating at a Staff Engineer level within modern and high performing engineering teams, leading architectural transformation and mentoring talent.
• The Depths of .NET Mastery: You understand the absolute depths of C# and .NET, with deep knowledge of runtime internals, garbage collection, memory management, and asynchronous programming.
• Practical Modernisation Experience: Demonstrated success in modernising legacy services, designing software around core .NET principles, and reusing existing technology assets effectively.
• AWS and Cloud Native Scale: Extensive commercial experience deploying and operating .NET workloads on AWS, including ECS containerisation and queue based architectures.
• Security and Performance: A strong track record of building secure, performant applications capable of managing high and low traffic volumes with strict adherence to .NET security architecture.
• Tooling Fluency: A practical and delivery focused mindset on how to leverage modern AI tools to assist in software engineering and problem solving.
