Description

Smart Urban Properties Australia (SUPA)

is Australia’s first converged services provider, delivering a smarter property experience by integrating renewables, EV mobility, superfast fibre and smart building technology.

SUPA specialises in multi occupancy properties across a range of sectors, including build to sell, build to rent, affordable and community housing and strata communities.

Our purpose is to create inspiring buildings and improve the lifestyles of the communities we serve. By delivering elevated occupier experiences and offering a unique managed service proposition, we make smarter, safer and more sustainable urban properties a reality.

Behind that experience is our energy and telecommunications infrastructure, deployed within embedded networks and multi dwelling developments. This includes embedded electricity networks, hot water plant, solar, EV charging infrastructure and Layer 2 wholesale fibre to the premises networks.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Group Finance team, in a newly created role that reflects the continued growth of our embedded networks business.

Reporting to the Group Finance Manager, you will provide hands-on general accounting depth to the team, working closely with the Group Finance Manager and Group Financial Controller on the technical and analytical work that sits behind our reporting. You will partner with our Energy, Networks and Corporate divisions to make sure management and the board get accurate financial information, on time.

This role will suit a qualified accountant who wants to be close to the detail and take ownership of process, not just maintain it. You will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, a sharp eye for accuracy and the initiative to improve the way things are done.

What does a day in the life look like?

  • Leading the month-end close, posting the journals required to close the period and completing high quality balance sheet reconciliations in line with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and, where relevant, IFRS
  • Driving tighter co-ordination of the month-end timetable across the finance team, lifting both the accuracy and the timeliness of financial and management reporting
  • Owning divisional management reporting end to end across our three business units, including P&L, balance sheet and cashflow, along with monthly, quarterly and annual management and statutory reporting
  • Researching and applying the correct technical accounting treatment for new or complex transactions, and documenting the position for management and audit purposes
  • Preparing and lodging statutory returns, including BAS, payroll tax, FBT and income tax
  • Owning weekly debtor reporting, covering ageing, collections performance and outstanding balances, and working with the billing and collections teams to escalate and follow up at risk accounts
  • Clearing the FY25 Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) reporting backlog and establishing a repeatable ROIC process, partnering with the Group Finance Manager, Group Financial Controller and our Analytics and Reporting team on methodology and presentation
  • Taking a key role in the preparation of group general purpose financial reports, and owning the interim and year end audit process including accounting position papers
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of our ERP systems and processes, and documenting key accounting procedures and policies

What you need to be successful in this role?

You are CA or CPA qualified, you have built your technical foundation in professional services or a comparable industry role, and you are ready to bring that depth into a growing business focused on sustainable energy and connected property.

The key skills you will need in order to be successful in this position are listed below:

  • At least five years in a professional services role in audit or business services, or equivalent industry experience
  • At least three years of relevant post-qualification experience across financial and management accounting, including general accounting, financial analysis and reporting
  • CA or CPA qualification
  • Strong technical financial accounting knowledge, including Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Experience preparing general purpose financial statements under both Tier 1 and Tier 2 reporting requirements
  • Strong familiarity with external audit processes, either in house or from professional services
  • Advanced Excel skills, with sound data analysis and reconciliation capability
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills, along with the initiative and problem solving ability to improve a process rather than simply run it
  • Experience in the energy industry is strongly preferred, as is experience in a private equity backed business
  • Experience with debtor and collections reporting, and with financial return metrics such as ROIC, is highly regarded
  • Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or a similar ERP system is an advantage

While we have listed out what is needed to be successful, we also welcome applications from people that feel they have other transferable experience they could bring to the role!

Please note that we aren’t able to support visa sponsorship requirements at this stage, so all candidates must have full rights to work in Australia.

What we offer?

At SUPA you get flexibility and benefits that genuinely support your life outside of work, including hybrid working with up to two days from home each week, extra Cultural Lifestyle and Wellbeing leave and the option to purchase additional leave. We have generous parental leave arrangements; primary carer leave and flexible work options when life changes.

On top of this we spend our office days together in a modern South Melbourne space with regular social events, free gym access and novated leasing options.
