Description
Smart Urban Properties Australia (SUPA)
is Australia’s first converged services provider, delivering a smarter property experience by integrating renewables, EV mobility, superfast fibre and smart building technology.
SUPA specialises in multi occupancy properties across a range of sectors, including build to sell, build to rent, affordable and community housing and strata communities.
Our purpose is to create inspiring buildings and improve the lifestyles of the communities we serve. By delivering elevated occupier experiences and offering a unique managed service proposition, we make smarter, safer and more sustainable urban properties a reality.
Behind that experience is our energy and telecommunications infrastructure, deployed within embedded networks and multi dwelling developments. This includes embedded electricity networks, hot water plant, solar, EV charging infrastructure and Layer 2 wholesale fibre to the premises networks.
Role Overview
We are looking for an Energy Billing Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery of our energy billing function, across a book that is growing quickly and across every energy product and customer segment we serve.
Reporting to the General Manager – Billing, Revenue Assurance and Collections, you will lead a team of three to five, including an Energy Billing Team Lead and Billing Analysts. You will take the billing strategy, governance framework and compliance standards set by the GM and turn them into day-to-day team leadership, operational controls and delivery outcomes. You will be the operational escalation point for the billing team, and the link between direction and execution.
This role will suit an experienced billing leader who is comfortable working inside an established governance framework rather than writing it from scratch, and who wants scope to improve it. You will use data to find operational risk before it becomes a customer problem, and you will have room to put automation and AI-enabled tools to work on the manual load.
What does a day in the life look like?
- Leading end-to-end energy billing delivery, making sure billing outcomes are accurate and on time across all customer segments
- Operating the billing governance framework, procedures and controls set by the GM, spotting the gaps and recommending refinements
- Owning delivery of the annual repricing process against the GM’s plan and timeline, covering pricing configuration and validation, customer communications, system readiness and testing, stakeholder coordination and post-implementation reconciliation
- Running the compliance monitoring framework day to day, including reviews, audits, reconciliations and data analysis to surface billing risks early, and reporting findings and trends to the GM
- Leading operational investigations and remediation when billing issues are found, and escalating root cause or regulatory risk findings
- Building and maintaining billing performance reporting and analytics, improving automation and data visualisation through tools such as Power BI and advanced Excel
- Finding and implementing automation and AI-enabled solutions that cut manual activity, improve accuracy and sharpen reporting, and partnering with our technology teams and vendors to resolve system issues
- Providing direct line leadership, coaching and performance management to your team, setting clear expectations and building capability through structured training and knowledge sharing
What you need to be successful in this role?
You have run energy billing operations before, you have led a team through a repricing cycle, and you are looking for a role where improving the operation is part of the job rather than something you fit in around it.
The key skills you will need in order to be successful in this position are listed below:
- Five to eight years’ experience managing energy billing operations within an energy retailer or embedded electrical network provider
- Demonstrated experience leading billing teams and managing complex billing operations
- Strong understanding of energy billing processes, pricing changes, customer billing journeys and regulatory obligations
- Proven experience delivering annual repricing and large-scale billing changes
- Experience operating within established billing procedures, controls and governance frameworks
- Demonstrated experience using customer billing data to identify trends, risks and operational improvements, with the ability to interpret complex billing datasets and turn them into practical change
- Strong capability with Excel, Power BI or similar reporting and data analysis tools, and experience improving processes through automation, data analytics and AI-enabled tools
- Strong people leadership, with the ability to drive accountability, lift performance and manage operational change
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the confidence to work with customers to resolve billing disputes
- A degree in business, finance, accounting, engineering, energy management, data analytics or a related discipline, with relevant industry certifications or regulatory experience highly regarded
While we have listed out what is needed to be successful, we also welcome applications from people that feel they have other transferable experience they could bring to the role!
Please note that we aren’t able to support visa sponsorship requirements at this stage, so all candidates must have full rights to work in Australia.
What we offer?

We have generous parental leave arrangements; primary carer leave and flexible work options when life changes.
On top of this we spend our office days together in a modern South Melbourne space with regular social events, free gym access and novated leasing options.
