Location: South Melbourne | Part-Time, Permanent (15.2 hours per week)
Reports to: Finance & HR Leadership Team
Take ownership of the payroll function across a growing group of businesses, ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and exceptional employee support across approximately 100 employees.

About the role:
This is a standalone Payroll Manager / Payroll Officer role responsible for managing the full payroll function across multiple entities and ensuring all payroll processes are delivered accurately, compliantly, and on time.
- Manage end-to-end payroll operations across multiple entities
- Ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, awards, and Fair Work requirements
- Act as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related employee enquiries
- Maintain payroll systems and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Support business growth through scalable and efficient payroll practices
- Partner closely with Finance and HR to ensure seamless payroll operations

What you will do:
- Process accurate and timely fortnightly payroll across approximately 100 employees
- Manage payroll across multiple business entities and employee groups
- Administer superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, WorkCover, and statutory obligations
- Perform payroll account reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations
- Prepare payroll reports and support payroll-related financial reporting requirements
- Maintain employee payroll records, leave balances, and entitlements
- Manage payroll onboarding and offboarding processes for new and departing employees
- Respond to payroll enquiries and provide support to employees and management
- Ensure payroll compliance with awards, legislation, and regulatory requirements
- Identify and implement payroll process improvements and efficiencies
- Maintain and optimise Employment Hero HR and Payroll systems
- Coordinate year-end payroll reporting and compliance activities
Skills & experience:
We are seeking an experienced payroll professional with strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing end-to-end payroll functions
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and Fair Work regulations
- Experience managing payroll across multiple entities or growing organisations
- Hands-on experience using Employment Hero HR and Payroll (essential)
- Strong understanding of superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, and statutory reporting requirements
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
- Excellent reconciliation and reporting skills
- Strong problem-solving capability and process improvement mindset
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships across all levels of the business
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of payroll outcomes
