As our Veterinary Nurse, you’ll provide high-quality nursing care to animals in RSPCA Queensland’s care, supporting everything from routine treatments to high-volume desexing programs and surgical procedures. We’re looking for an experienced and motivated veterinary nursing professional who is passionate about animal welfare and committed to delivering exceptional patient care. You’ll bring strong clinical nursing knowledge, sound judgement and a calm, organised approach to your work. What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Provide high-quality medical and surgical nursing care for animals in RSPCA Queensland’s care.
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, diagnostics and surgical procedures.
- Support high-volume desexing programs and contribute to positive animal welfare outcomes.
- Administer medications and routine veterinary treatments in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Perform routine laboratory and pathology testing to support diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Triage and admit animals presenting to the hospital, ensuring appropriate assessment and care.
- Maintain accurate patient records, hospital documentation and appointment schedules.
- Monitor patient wellbeing and support recovery throughout treatment and surgical processes.
- Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic hospital environment that meets infection control standards.
- Collaborate closely with veterinarians, animal attendants, volunteers and other team members to deliver excellent patient care.
- Contribute to a positive team culture aligned with RSPCA Queensland’s values and purpose.
- Represent RSPCA Queensland at occasional community and fundraising events as required.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, or a recognised overseas equivalent.
- Previous experience in veterinary nursing within a companion animal clinical environment.
- Experience in surgical nursing, emergency care or critical care.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume hospital setting.
- Strong clinical nursing skills and knowledge of veterinary patient care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise tasks, adapt to changing circumstances and remain calm under pressure.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving and teamwork.
- Experience performing laboratory and pathology testing will be highly regarded.
- Ability to undertake physical duties, including manual handling and safely lifting up to 10kg.
