Description

Overview

Funded by the WA Department of Transport – Driving Access & Equity Program, the Pilbara Driving Pathways Program is a culturally safe and inclusive program supporting community members across the Pilbara to obtain their driver’s licence.

Providing practical, wrap-around support including assistance with learner theory testing preparation, supervised driving hours, hazard perception testing preparation, and access to a program vehicle. Participants have trained mentors or instructors and are supported through each stage of the licensing process, from initial intake through to the practical driving assessment.

The program is open to people of all ages who may face barriers such as limited access to a vehicle or supervising driver, financial challenges, social/emotional barriers, or low confidence. Our aim is to build independence, improve road safety, and increase access to employment and education opportunities.

Responsibilities

Program Implementation

  • Support participants in 1:1 and in group situations to achieve their license.
  • Facilitate all actions associated with supporting young people to attain their license, including but not limited to, providing Professional Driving lessons, Mentor Driving hours and addressing the barriers faced to achieving their license.
  • Support Volunteer Mentors ongoing and offer regular contact and open communication.
  • ·Support Service Providers ongoing and offer regular contact and open communication.

Volunteer Supervision

  • Support Volunteer Mentors to provide driver logbook hours for participants.
  • Provide an in-vehicle induction to Volunteer Mentors prior to the first session.

Collaboration

  • Actively contribute and participate in development, facilitation, and evaluation of RRKAC Community team initiatives.
  • Work closely with the RRKAC teams, to provide an integrated service delivery approach to members
  • Foster a culture of member respect, support, and service throughout the RRKAC office.
  • Attend and participate in team and staff meetings, including presenting cases for consultation and discussion.
  • Contribute to the development/improvement of effective systems and practice that will better support and enable members to access the resources available to them.
  • Champion Traditional Owner inclusion and capability building

Essential Criteria

  • Current ‘C’ open drivers’ license
  • Qualified Driving Instructor or willingness to become one
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build great working relationships community, volunteers and Service Providers
  • Proficient in IT and demonstrated experience using computer software and systems.
  • Ability to: –
  • Work effectively with and for Aboriginal people and especially at-risk youth.  
  • Model desired workplace behaviours.
  • Effectively resolve conflict.  
  • Hold a current National Police Check (or ability to obtain), Working with Children card (WWC) and pass pre-employment medical including Drug & Alcohol test.
