About the Role

At Rayo, our Transformer Technicians look after some of the most critical assets on the network. You’ll play a key role in the assembly, maintenance and refurbishment of power transformers, working as part of a skilled and supportive crew on transmission, distribution, renewable generation and battery storage sites across Australia.

Safety and quality are the foundations of this role. Working on a wide range of OEM transformers, you’ll be responsible for the technical build and oil management of each unit, ensuring it is assembled, processed and returned to service to manufacturer specification and the highest safety standards.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Site assembly and dressing of power transformers, including bushings, radiators, conservators, cooling systems and on-load tap changer components
  • Vacuum oil filling, hot oil circulation and oil processing (filtration, dehydration and degassing) to OEM and client specifications
  • Oil sampling and supporting oil analysis, including DGA, moisture and dielectric breakdown testing
  • Maintenance and refurbishment works, including gasket and seal replacement, leak rectification, bushing replacement and tap changer servicing
  • Setting up, operating and maintaining oil processing plant, vacuum pumps and associated equipment
  • Reading and interpreting OEM drawings, manuals and assembly procedures, and completing ITPs, test sheets and quality records
  • Working alongside our HV electricians and commissioning team to bring units into service
  • Travelling to and working across multiple sites nationally, including regional and remote locations.

    • Solid experience in transformer oil management, including vacuum oil filling and oil processing
    • Exposure to a wide range of transformer OEMs and their assembly and filling requirements, with a willingness to keep building capability across others
  • Electrical or mechanical tradespeople with transformer or heavy plant exposure who are eager to learn and grow into transformer specialists

If you value safety, teamwork, and continuous learning, we’ll back you with the right training, mentoring, and opportunities to succeed.

You’ll need:

  • A trade qualification in an electrical or mechanical discipline, or equivalent demonstrated transformer experience
  • White Card

  • Willingness to travel and work away from home on a project basis

Great to have (but not essential):
