Summary 

Rayo is an Adelaide-based energy infrastructure business delivering substations, powerlines, battery storage, solar and wind projects across the National Electricity Market. As we grow our maintenance services division, we’re looking for a Commissioning Officer to take ownership of testing, commissioning and technical support across our project portfolio.

The role 

You’ll be in the field taking assets from construction completion through to energisation, operation and handover. You’ll develop and execute the commissioning plans, run the tests, find and fix the faults, and produce the QA evidence pack that proves the job was done right. Along the way, you’ll mentor and supervise the junior staff working alongside you.

What you’ll do

• Test and commission primary and secondary plant and systems, including indoor and outdoor HV/MV switchgear, transformers, protection IEDs and schemes, SCADA integration, DC supply systems, and BESS and renewables equipment.
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, ITPs, check sheets and test procedures.
• Carry out wiring checks and hardwired circuit commissioning, fault-find complex issues and develop rectification strategies.
• Work directly with customers to understand their requirements and turn them into detailed test methodologies and commissioning scopes.
• Mentor and develop junior staff on site, building the next generation of commissioning personnel.
• Compile FAT/SAT and as-commissioned documentation for client handover.
• Work to the highest safety and quality standards, in line with our certified management systems.

What you’ll bring

• An unrestricted electrical licence (or interstate equivalent, e.g. A-Grade), or an Electrical Engineering degree with relevant field experience.
• Proven testing and commissioning experience on substation, energy or renewables projects.
• Confidence reading single-line diagrams, protection schematics and network drawings.
• Experience across a range of test equipment and software. Omicron Test Universe experience is essential.
• An understanding of the communications networks and protocols used in modern HV systems (e.g. IEC 61850, DNP3).
• A current driver’s licence and Construction White Card.
• A safety-first mindset and a willingness to travel to site.
• Desirable: experience testing large power transformers, MV cables and other HV equipment.
