 Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

Seeking a Senior Advisor – Environmental Policy & Implementation to join Te Kohae – National Strategy Team within our Pūtake Taiao Group.

 A kaupapa-driven role focused on bridging policy, regulatory reform, and implementation across environmental systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring national policy change translates into effective, consistent outcomes that reflect Raukawa values, Treaty settlement commitments, and iwi aspirations. Working closely with internal teams and government agencies, you will provide strategic and technical advice to support Raukawa’s response to ongoing system change across environmental, freshwater, conservation and planning contexts.

 Key responsibilities

  • Provide expert analysis on environmental policy issues.
  • Prepare high-quality strategic advice on legislation, policies, and regulations affecting the taiao and Raukawa rights and interests.
  • Support the development of long-term strategies that align national policy with Raukawa environmental strategic priorities.
  • Active engagement with key stakeholders to advocate and uphold Raukawa values and Treaty settlement obligations.
  • Drive the implementation of policy initiatives, ensuring they translate into tangible outcomes for our taiao and our uri.
  • Contributing to the planning, development, and implementation of joint work programmes arising through our Ministerial Accords.
  • Providing support to the Te Kohae National Strategy Manager

 He kōrero mōu | About you

You are an experienced senior advisor who brings:

  • Demonstrated experience in policy, planning, regulatory or implementation roles (environmental or resource management contexts preferred)
  • Strong understanding of government systems, decision-making processes and reform environments
  • Ability to translate complex policy and regulatory frameworks into practical, implementable approaches
  • Sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Treaty settlement arrangements and co-management frameworks
  • Capability to integrate mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori perspectives within mainstream policy environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing high-quality submissions and advice
  • Strong relationship-building, influence and political awareness skills
  • Ability to work with a high degree of initiative and proactively identifying priorities and progressing work in a dynamic environment
  • A genuine commitment to kaitiakitanga and advancing iwi and Māori development outcomes
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) is required.
  • Proficiency in Te Reo Māori is desirable, or a willingness to develop with organisational support.

You must hold a full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence and be willing to undergo reference checks.
