The Role
The Racing Trader plays a critical role in the execution of pricing, trading and risk management strategies across thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound markets. This role demands a deep understanding of racing, sharp trading instincts and strong analytical skills. Operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, you will be expected to make accurate, timely decisions that directly impact trading performance, customer outcomes and business profitability. This role suits someone passionate about racing, driven by data and technology, and eager to shape the future of racing wagering.
The key responsibilities of this role are:
• Set and trade prices across a wide range of racing markets with insight, accuracy and efficiency.
• Monitor live betting activity and manage liabilities in real time.
• Analyse market movements and customer behaviour to inform trading decisions.
• Support customer profiling and segmentation to optimise risk management.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Contribute proactively to the continuous refinement of trading strategy and products.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams (technology, product, operations).
• Identify and implement improvements to trading tools, pricing models and operational processes.
Essential Skills
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with excellent numerical reasoning.
• Exceptional attention to detail and precision, particularly under pressure.
• Ability to interpret and react to dynamic market conditions in real time.
• Strong understanding of betting markets, probabilities and risk management principles.
• Experience with betting exchanges, trading platforms or pricing systems.
• Capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative, fast-moving team.
• Well-developed organisational skills and a structured approach to work.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
• Fluent in English.
• Programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, R, VBA) are an advantage.
