Racer’s Edge is one of Central Otago’s leading specialist outdoor retailers, with a strong reputation across bike, ski and outdoor categories. Our bike department is a large category and continues to grow with strong demand from the local riding community and visitors.
We are seeking an experienced Bike Workshop Manager to lead our workshop and rental team and operate the service department as a high-performing, profitable business unit within the bike department.
This role is ideal for a senior mechanic ready to lead a team, or an experienced workshop manager who wants to combine technical leadership with the Wanaka outdoor lifestyle.
The Role
You will lead a team of mechanics and ensure the workshop delivers:
• High quality servicing and builds
• Strong labour productivity and profitability
• Excellent customer experience
• Reliable servicing of the rental fleet
• A positive, professional team culture
You will manage the workshop P&L, labour productivity, and workflow while maintaining the high standards Racer’s Edge is known for.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Leadership
• Lead and develop a team of 4–5 mechanics
• Maintain strong workshop culture and technical standards
• Recruit, train and coach mechanics
Operational Excellence
• Manage workshop workflow and job scheduling
• Ensure efficient bike builds and servicing
• Maintain rental fleet servicing readiness
• Implement best practice workshop systems
Commercial Performance
• Manage workshop labour targets and profitability
• Drive labour recovery and productivity
• Maintain service pricing and job profitability
• Ensure accurate job costing and invoicing
Customer Experience
• Deliver outstanding service and communication
• Manage complex repairs and technical diagnostics
• Build strong relationships with the local riding community
About You
You are a self starter, highly motivated and hardworking and an equally highly capable mechanic who also understands how to run a professional workshop.
You likely have:
• 5+ years experience as a bike mechanic
• Strong diagnostic and technical skills
• Experience leading or mentoring other mechanics
• Excellent organisation and workflow management
• Strong customer communication skills
• A passion for mountain biking and the outdoors
Previous workshop management or supervisory experience is highly desirable.
